Wow, that is Machiavellian thinking.   He’s not going to earn one more cent if people think he got an oblique injury from doing some ill-advised exercise, as opposed to some other reason.

Oh what a world we live in.

If he’s injury prone, he will make less money than if he has merely been subject to the Vast Incompetence Network that is the Baltimore Orioles: Because then, of course, the new-and Competent- team can easily fix the problems and Hunter will be once again elite… and very wealthy.

My wife says I’m naïve because I’m too honest, and I don’t see all the potential for evil in the world. Let me tell you, I am in the violin business, and if it can be seen, I have seen it. So with the greatest respect for you, I must lean towards agreement with @Ruzious and  @Aristotelian

On the other hand, Harvey was talking to Roch. Despite his failings as a writer, Roch has enough experience to clarify Harvey’s meaning, And as a management employee, it is his job not to share information that is controversial or would make the organization look bad.

Unless he’s really falling down on the job, he would not have shared this information unless he was confident it was non-controversial, So that tilts the scales back towards Frobby.

On the other hand,he’s not a very perceptive writer, so he may not have noticed, which is at least a penny on the scale in the other direction.

oh well… Nothing else to talk about.

How about them Dodgers??

The Dodgers cheated.  Go Braves!  :)

Actually, it was an amazingly bad call for the last play - earning Scherzer the save - which he looked to be ecstatic to take - can't blame him - but the 1st base ump somehow called an obvious check swing a swing to end the game - and it was 2-1.  It's like some of these umps are asking to be replaced by machines.  Did I digress there?

Hoping to send a note to Spencer Watkins that includes a screenshot of a call made on a pitch he threw to Brett Gardner, that was maybe 2 inches below the exact center of the zone, and yet called a ball. I was furious and I know Spenser was disappointed, and he got blown calls like that all the time.

I remember listening to a Rangers game a couple of years ago, and it was a home game, top of the ninth, two outs and two strikes, and the pitcher threw home, and Nadel’s call went something like this…” and here’s the pitch, there’s a ball outside, the count is NO! He calls it a strike…(confused pause)….so it’s Strike three..game over…”

And he was so confused that that ball had been called a strike. I was listening and not following online so I couldn’t see the pitch, but is was obviously a completely blown call, even though it went for the Rangers. Nadel wasn’t even enthusiastic. He was just thinking,”man that was a bad call.”

”the rain falls on the just and the unjust.” Win some lose some.

I didn't say it will work but he has got to be aware of the label and how much it is costing him.

The guy barely has a year of service time.  By the time he’s a free agent, nobody’s going to care why he had an oblique injury in 2021.   He’ll either continue to have constant injury problems, or he won’t — if he’s even in MLB by then.

You think he doesn't care if anyone labels him as injury prone?

Everyone is labeling him as injury prone, because he is.   Of course he cares.   But I don’t think he believes that he’s going to change that label by blaming one particular injury on the training staff (which he didn’t do).    He’ll either stay healthier or he won’t.   The only way to change the perception is by staying on the field.

I see it both ways. If you’re always laid up and rehabbing then how can you come to ST in tip top shape to do some CrossFit ab exercise?  Maybe the oblique injury was a blessing in disguise and it gave his shoulder a year to rest and heal. Plus, what did we need him for?

As hard as it’s been, I still think he can be a solid MR for us. I just want to see the coaching staff baby him at the MLB level. No back to backs. No 3 in 4 days. Try everything to keep the dude healthy so we can see what we actually even have at this point. Especially if he has an option left. Seems like a good opener.

So... I'm a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA.  Although it's been about a decade since I've worked with athletes (I work primarily in public health), I at least have some insight into this subject.  Harvey really doesn't give enough detail to make any determination of fault.  For example, if similar exercises were a part of the offseason training plan and he didn't follow the plan, and thus was unprepared when spring training arrived, then it is his fault.  On the contrary, if the coaches gave an exercise that Harvey had never done before (especially if at a high volume or load), then the fault is on the s&c coaches. (my mind goes back to perhaps 10 years ago when U of Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle put several football athletes in the hospital with rhabdomyolysis by having them do an ubsurd number of squats).

The third possibility is that Harvey's injury was caused by a combination of factors.  That is usually the case.

He was asked how the injury happened. He could have said weight room accident and left at that. I don't think it's a big deal but I definitely think he is trying to put some of the blame on the organization there.

I believe you would be taking it with a small grain of salt because the larger the grain the more faith you have in the comment. Then again, a grain is a defined unit of measure and it can neither be big or small. Like a heavy ounce or a light ounce, it is just an ounce.

And yet an ounce of water weighs less than an ounce of mercury. Funny how many English words have multiple meanings. Like how "grain" can mean a small, hard particle of a substance such as salt or sand, or wheat or any other cultivated real crop used as food, the longitudinal arrangement or pattern of fibers in wood, paper, etc., or the smallest unit of weight in the troy and avoirdupois systems.

YAWN. Let's see? Seems to be two sides to this 3 page discussion. Those who's agendas are always Harvey's comments must be something that proves the Orioles did something again that continues to prove their incompetence. Then those who don't want to bite that hook and and look at it as - well - not that significant of an interview. Gee, I believe Harvey was leaving his discussion with Roch to go hunting - something he does a lot of in the off season. Maybe Harvey should spend more time in the gym than in the woods? Who knows and with his track record, I really don't care! He's done enough for me to not only question his body, but also his head. I don't plan on the Orioles getting anything out of Harvey.

    • Getting to hear Jason Benetti, Carlos Pena and Kirk Gibson some of the afternoon was a treat. It was new to me earlier this year Gibson is still broadcasting almost a decade after his Parkinson's diagnosis...good for him. Benetti dumping the White Sox for the Tigers gives me some Miller to San Francisco vibes...he is excellent. Baseball as entertainment - it is wonderful that Carlos Pena, literally the player pushed aside so Scott Hatteberg could play offense more efficiently, has become a strong SABR-oriented analyst.
    • I don't think the rookies get to pick what the wear.  I 100% am sure the vets are picking these outfits.
    • I’d be shocked if the O’s do better than 2-4, and I’m half expecting them to go 1-5.
    • Worst female impersonator ever!
    • I watched the inning where the Tigers scored their 2 runs.  Our friend Meadows had two check swings that easily could have been called strikes, but instead he walked to load the bases.  Carpenter popped out but then Perez had an insane at-bat where he fouled off a ton of pitches, wasn't fooled by anything, and then delivered a bases loaded double which proved to be the difference. Our guys would likely have whiffed on just about every pitch in those at-bats, but their guys have a crazy amount of confidence right now and it has served them very well.   I do think they have a good chance of winning out and ending with 88 just based on who they play, which means we have to go 3-3 this week or we are out of the 4 spot.  Hopefully their luck will finally run out against us (assuming we can win enough to get in), but if it doesn't, I would love to see them knock out the Yankees.
    • If they played baseball another month maybe. Elias has been pretty much no comment on anything other than time is not on his. His last Lat issues had him control problems ( I Believe ) when he first came back. I'm just happy to have the others back.
    • 6 games left, they haven’t won more than one game in a series since the beginning of the month (against the White Sox for context). I see no reason to think they’ll do any better than 2-4 for remainder of the season.    Plus, i said it “feels” like. It’s an emotional response, not an analytical one. I’m going off the premise that they’ve been an absolute mess for quite a while and a playoff spot seems like a weird place to be for a team that’s played .400 ball since the All Star Break.  They could sweep the rest of the season, who knows? Just saying it feels bleak.
