Grayson Rodriguez 2022

Rodriguez pulled after 75 pitches after walking his first batter of the game on a close 3-2 changeup. 5.1 innings, struck out 8, walked one, allowed one hit. He looked visibly pissed when he was taken out, but not sure if that was because of the close 3-2 pitch that went gainst him.

If Rordriguez is the pitcher we think/hope he is, there probably is value for him learning to work deeper into the game in easier/lower stress situations in Triple A versus the big leagues. A guy like Zimmerman probably wont be asked to go much more then 5 very often in todays game, but a true ace is expected to be able to go through the lineup more often. That said, really hard for him to do it/learn that skill if they're going to pull him at 75 pitches...at some point they're going to have to start letting him go 100+ pitches, or you might as well call him up.

He did walk a batter.  Best to pull him before his confidence is crushed.

Until he can pitch 6 perfect innings consistently at Norfolk he’s not ready for Birdland. Or until the super 2 deadline passes. Whichever comes first.

So how many games before they get the extra year on him?  That to me is the only excuse to not bring him up.  Maybe they let him pitch to Adley at least one game.  You bring up Grayson then Adley two weeks later.  That would create a steady stream of "buzz."

There is also avoiding super 2 status to consider.

I'm worried - this kid is getting no experience pitching with men on base :)

They are going to have to keep him down until he gets runners on base to practice going out of the stretch.  Plus he and Adley need at least 5 starts together in Norfolk before they are ready.

That might be awhile, Adley been out so long Elias might start him back in A ball.
