Yeah. The way is to DFA both Nevin and Odor and give 3B and 2B to Henderson and Westburg, with Urias and Vavra as depth.

We all know there is zero chance they DFA Odor right now.  If the wheels come off and we fall out of wild card contention... maybe.

The biggest story this offseason may be how Elias handles the depth in the MI.

You really shouldn’t go into next season with things as they stand now.  You need to move some of this depth.

It will certainly be interesting to see how things shake out.  I don't think you force a trade this off season because there isn't really a 40 man crunch.  I think the deadline next season is where Elias makes some of his biggest moves.

It’s not the 40 man crunch that is an issue.  It is the idea that guys start getting blocked, don’t develop as well, lose value, etc…

They need to start making tough decisions and making moves when values are high.

I don’t think there’s room for two right now.  Maybe on Sept. 1.

I mean you could kick Odor and Nevin to the curb and bring in Gunnar and Westburg.  You could rotate in Westburg, Vavra, Urias, and Gunnar I guess

But then you have Ortiz, Prieto and Norby in AAA, and guys coming behind them. You could argue all 3 will be "ready" by mid 2023. You basically have one half season to figure out who will be on the ML team, and if there are several starters in the bunch, you then have to figure out who stays and who goes for other needs.

Yea that's why I think you move some of them probably.

This is part of the reason why I think no prospect other than maybe Grayson should really be off limits in the right deal.

At that point, I wonder if the rationale becomes “Odor helps keep it from wheels-off to full-on clubhouse mutiny”.

Not saying I agree with it (at all), but just trying to think through how Odor will be justified regardless.

Correct me if I am wrong but to be playoff eligible you need to be on the 40 man by August 31?

Right now Westburg and Henderson are not on the 40 man so they both would be ineligible for post season play unless they could make up an injury story?

Thought:

-Activate Henderson and Westburg to the 25 man

-Send down Nevin and Stowers before 8/31 deadline.

-Release Martin and Arauz from 40 man to make room

-Bring Stowers back up when rosters expand

This gives the team a chance to see how everyone looks in September and if we get into the playoffs the option to field our best 25 man.

Westburg's numbers have improved after his promotion to Norfolk.

His K rate has slightly decreased, his power increased, and he's OPS'ing .50 bps higher. He will likely be challenged by the enormous wall in left field, but there is a legit argument that he's as ready as Henderson.

It's nice to have the sheer volume of talented players in the system. It's conceivable that our entire lineup could be homegrown in a few years. That won't likely happen, as some of them will be used as trade chips (as they likely should.) But wow, tanking works, huh?

Tanking has almost nothing to do with it.
