The LF wall tracker

It's an interesting thought to keep track of whether pushing the fence in LF back hurts or helps the O's this year. We need some definite criteria to measure it though. Like off of the wall until the wall straightens out in left and any fly ball on the warning track maybe. I'm wondering what you all think about this.

The ball Mancini hit was most definitely a homer last year.

Do we count the runner scoring from 1st on a double down the left field line that would not have happened with a shorter fence?

Any idea which play/batter that was?

But yeah, we should definitely keep track. So far I don't believe it's affected the visiting teams yet, which is very Orioles, but it will inevitably. And that will be fun.

It was this play: 1st inning, two run double by McCutcheon that Yelich scored from 1st on.

You know what though, after relooking at this video, I don't think that was wall issue at all. It looks like it deflected off Gutierrez's glove and that slowed the ball down and went into corner before the wall.

So I would not count this!

Also do we count the runs at face value or as an instance. Like say an opposing player hits what would have been a three run homer next game. Would we do a Visitors-0 Orioles-3 or an instanced W/L kind of thing like Visitors-0 Orioles-1. I think it would be way easier to keep track of with the instanced version.

I also think we should post the urls of the plays (can be found in game film in baseball savant) so we can see each.

Here's Mancini's double that would have snuck into the stands last year.

Maybe it's better to keep track of "robbed runs"

Orioles-1  Visitors-0

To my eyes that play would have had the same result last season. But we do have to take into account that the guy in LF might be playing deeper than last season.

That will be hard to do but I agree, that is part of things.
