The Mark Teixeira Watch part III

I believe Roy "freakin'" Firestone over anyone in the local media.

Yeah, but people like Roch and Schmuck cover the team for a living.

Not to discredit Firestone, Up Close was a fine show and all, but don't you think local beat reporters have a better grasp of whats going on with the team?

I think he's done a little more than Up Close and no, I dont trust local media more than Roy Firestone. Schmuck is excellent but I think Roch sold out when he went to MASN and his work has suffered. Just my opinion.

Strongly disagree. Roch has said repeatedly nothing has changed since his move to MASN. Hes not just feeding the company line. And his blog has been even more active than it ever was since the move.

I'm not denying that Firestone has had a good career. I don't see what linking to his home page has to do with anything. Lance Armstrong and Kareem Abdul Jabbar probably aren't Oriole fans.

I'm just trying to say that journalists who work for the Sun and MASN, who follow the team for a living, probably have a better grasp on the situation then someone who is currently an entertainer in Miami. Thats all I'm saying.

Bruce Cunningham (105.7) just put out a rude denial of Tex not being at the stadium.

"I dont know how these rumors get started on some message boards, consider the source...Tex was not at the game yesterday."

I don't care how connected somebody is. To claim for certain that somebody was not in a stadium among 70,000 people is outrageous. There is just no way that claim can be made.

Sounds like the guy is more concerned with mocking a message board than anything else.

Roy has sources all over the place and is more well known than the local media in Baltimore, so maybe just maybe he has a few more connections.

Anyway enough with the Roy/insider/Roch bashing. That's what got the other Tex threads closed, and I want to see this one end with a signing of Tex for the Orioles before it gets closed...

Bruce reminds me of Ron Burgundy in many ways.

We're just having a conversation brother.

We'll talk about Tex when something relevant hapens.

Hard to argue with the logic here. I'm sure Roy knows people around the team, but the local media is talking people every day. It takes time and effort to cultivate sources.

I think it's a fair, valid opinion. I don't see that as an attack or insult directed toward Roy at all.

Welcome to the Hangout!

That's exactly what it was-sarcasm and mocking. I dont care for Cunningham but I can get Bob Haynie (1570) in the house real well.

If Roch was given a company Line on expected eitquette & do's & donts he wouldn't be able to make that public. Second Roch is working class the same as your or I ...So basically he saw his situation being in flux at the Sun. He saw the potential at MASN. And more importantly (HE NEEDS A JOB) PGA is essentially his boss now. Dont think for a second that he doesn't have a do's & DONT'S memo. Knowing how PGA has been over the years you are a fool to believe otherwise.

Starting to sound like the HO needs another update or two...

Generally the theme(s) of these threads have been that a lack of new information leads to thread derailment.

The more I think about it, the "Tex at the Ravens Game" debate has been one of the most over-blown things on this site.

    • Hopefully the O's took notes on the Red Sox exposing Trevino on Sunday night. Anyone not named McCann, Rutschman, and O'hearn - if you get on base, just run.
    • I just read a take on his changeup that loved it - thought it might help him be a "reverse splits" kind of RH middle reliever. Right now the Orioles have a bunch of lefties though should Coulombe end up okay.
    • BP profiled him today: Brandon Young, RHP, Baltimore Orioles Listed Height: 6-foot-6 Listed Weight: 210 pounds DOB (Age): August 19, 1998 (25) Pitch Velo Spin IVB HB Total % Whiff% 4-Seam Fastball 93.5 2124 18.0 -4.8 131 48.7 31.8 Changeup 85.5 1730 9.8 -13.3 64 23.8 22.9 Curveball 75.7 2723 -14.4 11.5 34 12.6 40.0 Slider 85.4 2048 5.4 5.5 26 9.7 12.5 Sweeper 79.5 2084 1.7 11.5 14 5.2 11.1 Injuries limited Young to just 53 1/3 innings between 2022 and 2023. Upon return to action last year, he flashed increased velocity. That velocity bump has carried over to 2024. Now, Young’s fastball has borderline-average velocity (previously below-average) but above-average carry and extension (6.6 feet). It is further aided by strong command. After his fastball, which is by no means a world beater, Young has a smattering of average secondaries. He primarily relies on a changeup–really his only secondary with above-average potential–that has solid velocity (8 mph), vertical movement (8+ inches), and horizontal movement (8+ inches) separation from his fastball. Both his breaking balls either lack enough power (curveball) or depth (slider/cutter) to be viable putaway pitches at the MLB level. His seldomly-used sweeper has potential, but it has had little success so far. Young adds to the depth of the deepest system in baseball, yet he very well may just be that–depth–likely without an above-average offering. Of course, he could become a viable fantasy arm even with mediocre stuff due to his command and control.
    • You would theoretically make more money over time by best serving your employers.
    • They announced his rehab was over and that he would be back in AAA.
    • If I sell someone a house, I don’t advise them to buy the most expensive house because that means more money for me. I get to know the client, understand what’s important for them and advise them based off of that. That’s how you should always handle a job like that imo. Your wallet should not be part of the equation.
