Actually, he's added more horizontal movement and a little less vertical to his curveball making it less of a 12-6 curveball going from 8.6 inches to 11.3 this year. He also throws it just 11.2% of the time vs 27.2% (2nd most of his pitches) when he first arrived. On top of it, since it's his 4th pitch, he's throwing it over more for strikes as a get me over since batters aren't looking for it.
The biggest improvement to his repertoire is his changeup, which was terrible in the minor league
Snell only pitched 104 innings this year and turns 32 this offseason. Free agent pitching is a premium, but thats not exactly a great candidate for a $140m deal. I'll go with Burnes, even if he has his own risks.
I hope all of the optimism re: Rubinstein is correct. I must say I am a bit more skeptical than others and expect something in the range of a $130mm payroll. He should try to really juice things ($180mm) and see if the fans show up. If not, dial it back.
I still hang on to hope that Holliday can translate his 2024 431 OBP from AAA to the majors or something close to that. IMO, he is our leadoff hitter if he can. I think how MLB handles ball and strike umpiring in 2025 will also be a factor. I also think Ced will come into 2025 primed so he could fill that roll versus right handers but that should be Holliday's strenght too. Four months to wait and see. Two possibilities other than Gunnar.
Hey...if THAT got in their heads, they must be too tight. Was Manny being a little coy? Maybe. But, if this is something that gets a team mad, they must have bigger issues.
Cubans need to be cleared by MLB as free agents, to ensure their paperwork is in order and steer clear of the embargo. I don’t believe that has happened yet so that is likely the holdup.
The Orioles have the second most budget remaining after the Dodgers.
