The idea that certain players have a different sounds off the bat is ludicrous.  Sure, someone might square one up better in one instance that sounds a bit louder, but at the end of the day it's a ball hitting a bat.  Maybe the only variable is the type of wood being used but that shouldn't make as much of a difference.  

I like being romantic about baseball as much as anyone else and I love Bo Jackson mythologies but it's a bit over the top at times, too.

Couple things then back to Jackson. 
1- crack of the bat is absolutely different from player to player.  You’ll notice more in amateur and lower ranks where barrel speed can fluctuate from 60-80+mph.  Players size, weight, strength will play into it as well.

2- Hays uses the atypical Birch bat (not ash or maple).  Takes longer to break in and has more flex.  I’ve noticed over time birch bats don’t have the same crack as maple or ash.

 

Jackson Holiday is a beast.  Can’t wait to see him take BP and play live.  Fingers crossed he can sneak up to Delmarva/Aberdeen this year.

Yeah, I think you're not taking acoustics into account.  Sure, a batted ball is going to sound different when it's hit on a 60 mph swing vs a 90 mph swing, I don't deny that.  But that's stating the obvious.  I'm sure Bo Jackson's batted balls sounded different than Mike Gallego's, on average.  But if Mike Gallego really got a hold of one, do you think there's THAT much difference?

Look at a spring training game and tell me why the sound of a batted ball is different then than it is at Camden Yards.  Sure, there are variables to take into account here but I don't think the variables are that different.  Like Frobby said, he noticed a difference from sitting behind home plate vs. being up the first base line. 

I will argue that where you are in proximity to the impact of the bat (or if you're watching at home, where the microphone is placed) and the acoustics of a stadium are the biggest differing factors here.  A batted ball in an empty stadium is going to sound way different as the sound reverberates throughout the entire park off plastic/metal seats.  The same batted ball will sound different in a stadium full of people.  It's that simple.  

Spring training homers:  

Go ahead and listen, especially the one at 3:45.  How come they don't sound this loud during the regular season?

It's probably not common to promote HS players to Delmarva after being drafted?

I don't think so.  He likely starts there next year.  Delmarva season is over on 9/11 so not a lot of time remaining anyways.
