Wednesday, August 10 -- Orioles go for sweep vs Toronto & can move into official wild card position with a win, if weather allows

Amateur weatherman here.

I just put Baltimore on my weather app. The app is pretty accurate. I’m thinking they might start a little after 8:00 and get in a few innings before another delay between 9-10. Resume around 11:00 and finish around 1:00 am.

“Could” be a long night.

I remember playing a cassette tape of that album in my car mile after mile.  When was that, the mid-late 80s?  Thanks for taking me back.

1993

edit maybe 1994. I didn’t look it up.

wunderground.com is showing 92% chance of rain at 8pm, 71% chance of rain at 9pm and 52% chance of rain at 10pm.

Not sure how long they are willing to wait before calling the game, but the weather will break it might be too late. Also the Orioles have a game in Boston Thursday night before going to Tampa.

Would not hurt my feelings if this game gets called. Big weekend in Tampa. I know one game in Boston tomorrow but having an off day this week could be beneficial.

Why are they playing in Boston tomorrow? I assumed make-up game but I don't see that on the schedule.

Not that wet in Richmond Va.  Always looks like its going to rain every day or two, then just a short rain for a half hour or so.  Only a few big rains this summer here.

It has been consistent, slow moving storms that land directly on our property and just POUR.

    • They likely sell out for a 7pm game. Tough schedule being at 4pm but that coupled with how bad/boring they have been the last 3 months, it’s not surprising they didn’t sell out. The excitement is just way down this year for good reason and that’s on the team, not the fans. Nobody wants to go watch your favorite team struggle to get 5 hits and 3 runs. You can watch that on the TV for free.
    • Just a casual reminder that prior to the two very good performances in those definitely meaningful games in MIN, Jackson had a .325 OPS in his 45 previous PAs. In that same rough timeframe, he also had three arguable late-inning gaffes (two fielding, one baserunning) that changed and/or cost us games. I get that we’re feeling desperate, but…forcing him into the lineup over Westburg or Urias feels like an ultimate panic move.
    • Put me in the Holliday at second column for today.  Bat him ninth and cross your fingers he keeps last weekend's improvements going. I think we need someone from out of nowhere to get going if we want to do anything in the playoffs - Holliday certainly on the list of candidates for that, along w/ Kjerstad.  Who knows maybe Holliday is ready to break out and become our Evan Carter for the rest of 2024.  Worth a shot after yesterday's abysmal performance. Henderson Westburg (moves to 3B obviously) O'hearn (1b) Santander Cowser Mullins Kjerstad (DH) Rutschman Holliday   That's a lot of lefties in a row, but that can be abated somewhat with pinch hitting later in the game, if needed - Mountcastle/Slater/Rivera/Urias is not a terrible RH bench and any combo can hit for Kjerstad or Holliday or Mullins. Have to move Rutsch down.
    • Not disagreeing with you, but need to point out that San Diego has done a lot of winning lately, almost catching the Dodgers. That gives your fans a lot of faith to show up for a playoff game.
    • The ball Mullins hit.  Was the wind blowing in yesterday because I thought it was gone off the bat?
    • I live in South Carolina so it's not a convenient drive, but I did buy ALCS tickets right away last year (obviously that didn't pan out) but didn't purchase any tickets (yet) this year. I could see myself making the drive up if they happened to win the next two for a ALDS or ALCS game. But with how the team has performed the last half of the year I can honestly say I was significantly less excited this year than last.  Of course, I did watch every pitch and followed all the reports and media leading up to the game so I'm still invested, but it's certainly a bit different.
    • Gunnar isn’t going anywhere for at least 4 more years after this. I’m all for signing him longterm. Whether Gunnar is signed or not has nothing to do with how they played down the stretch. If he had a 10 year deal that doesn’t make him or anyone else better.    From a fan standpoint clearly inking a home grown star to a longterm deal will go a long ways. I am hopeful new ownership will do these things.
