https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-rule-changes-for-2022     In addition, Rookie Qualifications moving forward will remain the same as the 2021 season. Because 2021 was the first full season without significantly expanded September rosters that allowed up to 40 active players, the determination of rookie status no longer excluded September days toward the threshold of 45 days. Like 2021, the Rookie Qualifications will read as follows: “A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he had (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League Club or Clubs during the Championship Season (excluding time on the Injured List).”

I just hope Hyde/Elias make the right move and bench Odor once Henderson is up. Vavra and Urias should platoon at 2B with Gunnar at 3B. Odor shouldn't be on the roster at all (Westburg should be promoted as well and take Odor's roster spot, but I don't expect the O's to promote Westburg if he can't play every day), but I'll be happy if he's relegated to the  bench.

I'm the opposite.  I give extra points for the guy willing to put on the gear and go squat behind the plate.

Adley doesn't have to catch to play in the majors.  He's choosing to have what is likely a shorter career.

He’s a good team guy, but I don’t think he chose to play catcher out of altruism. It’s in his family history, and it’s also the surest path to the majors.   Adley probably wouldn’t have gone 1:1 as a 1B, though it’s hard to say for sure.

He might not have gone 1:1 but he's have gone 1:X.

I wasn't trying to imply that he's sacrificing it all for the team or anything of that ilk but yea, it kinda sucks to catch.  In my mind I give players a bit of extra credit for it.

Not trying to derail this thread, but was looking up rule changes.  Does this mean if any of the prospects gets a year of service and gets top 5 MVP or Cy Young or top two ROY pre arbitration, the Os get an extra draft pick? 
So next year AR is top 5 MVP, Henderson ROY, GRod top 5 Cy Young and top 2 ROY that is 4 extra draft picks?  Obviously that is an extreme example but could happen. 
If an eligible prospect is promoted to the major league roster, receives a full year of service time and receives “sufficient” awards consideration in any season before he qualifies for arbitration, the team will receive a PPI selection in one or both of the draft and the international draft, if implemented.

It’s definitely tough to catch.  I run a Sunday morning softball game in my neighborhood and divide up the teams in advance.   I frequently play catcher because I don’t want to ask someone else to do it.  It’s pretty wearying to get in and out of a crouch for 7 innings of slow pitch softball at 9-10:30 am, wearing no mask or gear, with the average at bat lasting 2-3 pitches.  I’m usually sore for 2-3 days after that.  And I’m not getting 5-10 balls ricocheting off my body, sitting there in 95 degree midday heat with a helmet over my head and face, for 150+ pitches.   (Well, I’m not sure about the number of pitches, since our games typically have teams scoring 10-20 runs.)

Of course, Adley’s not 65 years old, either.

I think if Odor is going to the bench, the only way that happens is if Henderson takes his spot. It's easier to pitch to Odor and the team that the #1 prospect in baseball is supplanting Odor.

If Henderson takes over at third, it's going to be tough to sell Urias and Vavra getting playing time over Odor if he's as much of a clubhouse guy as he's portrayed to be. Regardless, Odor will get plenty of playing time in a bench role with a jam packed schedule the rest of the year and by limiting Henderson's ABs from time to time.

I find it a little hard to believe that they would be quite so blatant about holding him down until the rookie cutoff passed. My expectation was that they would wait until September call ups if he was going to debut this season.

Gunnar wouldn't be eligible for the postseason roster if he's added in September. 

Also, it actually helps Gunnar financially to preserve his rookie status for 2023 if he finishes top 3 in the AL ROY voting and is on the Opening Day roster next year.

Didn't they shut Hays down a couple of at bats short of the cutoff a few years ago?

While I think it's very unlikely for the O's to make the playoffs, I think it would be a lukewarm message to the fans if somehow the O's make the playoffs and Henderson is not available for the postseason roster. Especially if he lights it up immediately. With the Orioles selling at the deadline, they're showing a willingness to use their prospects as ammunition. If they're going to call up Gunnar, it doesn't make sense to not do it this week for a number of reasons.

I believe that he would still be playoff eligible as long as he is added to the 40 man roster by the end of August 31st. If that is correct, they could add him on the 31st and officially call him up to the big league roster on September 1st when rosters expand.

This isn't healthy for me to check social media every five minutes to see if it's confirmed that Gunnar is getting called up or he has been spotted at OPACY.
