I think he only has 3 years of service time. I think he enters his first year of arbitration this offseason

Brett Phillips, Richie Martin, and Travis Lakins Sr.  elected free agency after the season.

Phillips was outrighted off the 40 and was in the Minors. As soon as that season ended, he became a free agent.

Dang, I forgot he was DFAd. Any chance they resign him?

I kinda liked Jake Reed to with his funk arm slot. Seemed to struggle with the control though

Usually I’d say I’d never me bad over a minor league signing, but Cave and Benboom have been added to the 40 man. Maybe Elias wanted to scoop them up and then DFA them when all the teams cut down for the 40 man roster deadline/rule 5 draft.

I just don’t want this two moves to cost us to lose a player or two in the rule 5 draft that we could’ve protected with these 40 man spots. That would be a double whammy. See Zach Pop.

Exactly… and I was never a fan of accumulating minimal value players.  GMs love this sort of inside minutiae though and one does have to stock minor league teams too.

I certainly hope it's this...and I believe it probably is.

I guess the O's could pick up a marginal player for a short time and then run them through either their hitter or pitcher analysis.  Especially good to make use of the new facility in Bel Air.  That would give Elias/O's a better idea if this player has a fixable error in their hitting or throwing.  I don't know whether this is being done, but it seems like a smart idea.

Huh?

Bemboom was in the organization all last year and wasn't good at hitting AAA pitchers and was awful in his major league time like he's been his whole career.

What magic potion makes a 33-year old catcher a better hitter?

I was talking more about players that are picked up off waivers and kept a short time.  I was just wondering if an in depth analysis is done to determine if they can be fixed.  O's fans will just see this as roster churn, where players are picked up for a short time and released with no real reason.  I was not referring to Biemboom, but short term pick ups and DFA's.
