Some overly simplistic OBP math

Elias is going to sign FA to shore up weak areas.  He's also got prospects in mind to take over key positions over the next two years.

Yes but not 7 of them! Only a fool would believe he has that many good ones. The strategy of keeping the best as moving the ones that aren’t is the best way to go about it. As I mentioned your only real keepers on the current roster are Henderson, Adley, Mullins, and perhaps Santander.

Not talking about 30 something’s like you with Verlander. 28 year olds are pretty safe to continue performing at a high level for several years. No long free agent contract is ever worth it the final few. It comes with the territory. I don’t know whether he will go big or not. So we will have to see! Plus having a surplus to deal will also help fill other holes. I’m simply saying that worrying about blocking Holiday at this point is pointless.

Where am I talking another Verlander?

And your last point is awful.

And no, 28 year olds aren’t safe if you are signing them to 7-10 year deals.

The only one I’ve talked about is Correa. Because he’s been linked to Elias. Benintendi probably gets 3 tops

Maybe Elias has a good idea of those 7 which are the best keepers and maybe he's not sure.  Maybe all 7 are potential keepers but the only way to find out is trial and error.  Only a fool would think all 7 are keepers?  I suppose but maybe even Elias doesn't know which ones yet.

He’s talking about signing bats. He’s not nearly as worried about blocking guys as some dudes here.

The rumors are that he’s been talking to everyone. Just looking for a deal that makes sense for us.

I'm sure he's talking.

But I don't think for a second that the plan is to sign a guy that is considered a conventional #1 or #2 pitcher.

Might he pull the trigger if one fell into his lap?  That's a different kettle of fish.

What I expect is the local media talking up a more budget friendly acquisition.

I know you can usually take Elias at his word. He doesn’t seem to throw too many smoke screens. He’s stated 2 hitters and a starter in the 2nd tier.

He didn’t say anything about the second tier.   That’s an assumption many are making.
