2/30 sounds like a big overpay for Cueto. He had a nice year last year but it’s hard to expect him to repeat that based on the previous seasons.

That being said Elias has never signed anyone to a multi year deal. I highly doubt the first is going to a guy who will be 37 on Opening Day and seemed to be pretty lucky last year.

Why would you off Cueto 5 million more then guys like Mannea, Quintana, and Stripling got?   I think you could get him in the 1 year for 12 million or 2/25 type deal those guys got.

I would be ok with Cueto on one year.   Not excited about any of the other options including Eovaldi.

Cueto would have an ERA closer to 5.00 than 4.00 if pitched a full season in the American League. Complete waste of money. We'd be better off just going with who / what we have. Honestly, aside from Rodon and Eovaldi I kinda feel that way about every remaining FA sttarting pitcher.

I thought the White Sox were in the American League.

BTW, he had a 3.35 ERA and a 3.79 FIP last year.

So explain how a pitcher with a 3.5 WAR last year for White Sox is much,  much worse than the 1.5 WAR the guy you like put up last year?  ..

His rapidly declining ability to miss bats makes me think it is highly unlikely he can repeat last year.  3rd percentile in whiff %, 8th percentile in K %, 5.8 K/9...I'd bet on him being closer to replacement level than matching that 3.5 WAR in 2023.

How did he do it last year then? Lol I am serious.  Is the stat useless?
