What's the Best 9/Best Lineup When Ced Comes Back?

...and if Hicks is real. What's the best 9?

 

Mountcastle is being pushed by OHearn right now for sure.  I like Frazier, and he'll get his time, but Urias and Gunnar are starting to heat up. Mateo is probably our SS for now bc he's a GG, but his 77 OPS+ is rough and Westburg could force his way up if Mateo becomes a black hole in the line up while everyone else has an OPS+ above 100. Westburg bumps Mateo only if Elias and Hyde feel comfortable with Gunnar at SS.  Mateo would become super utility (SS/OF)

OHearn is hot and i hope he keeps it up as long as possible but hes a couple 0-4/0-5s away from falling out of favor.

Both of these lineups rob Mullins of his base-stealing.  Switch Hays and Mullins in the second lineup and Henderson and Mullins in the first.

You can't steal first base.

Mullins leading off an inning:  .182 / .259 / .273

Mullins with men on base: .359 / .481 / .625

Mullins with men in scoring position: .432 / .554 / .795

Even if the statistics and analytics show that Mullins doesn't hit well leading off an inning and that he's much better with men on base, Hyde is still always going to bat him leadoff. And honestly if Cedric prefers leading off for the team, I'm fine with him there.

6. Santander 1B/DH

7. Hays RF

8. Kjerstad DH/1B

9. Ortiz SS

That lineup would be incredible, and it's very possible. Santander at cleanup with spots 4-7 being the same as the first lineup would also work if Westburg and/or Cowser are still adjusting to major league pitching.

I don't think Santander is an Oriole as of 6:01PM EST on August 1st.

Mullins is CF and leadoff. Hays is LF and one of the top 5 guys in every lineup. 

Hicks will play in more tactical, limited ways.

I would expect McKenna to be optioned to AAA when Mullins returns with Hicks on the roster.

I'm not even going to speculate an entire detailed lineup because we don't know who will be active at that point in time or if Lester will still be around.

No. 1 in the lineup only starts the game once. What I was alluding to was the different situation with the better hitters in front of him (Henderson & AR in one, Santander & Mountcastle in the other--assuming the latter recovers).

Why would Westburg be up and starting everyday and the superior prospect Cowser not?

Also, why would Hicks be batting 2 and Gunnar 5?

The way Hicks is playing, and O'Hearn is hitting,  McKenna  looks like the odd man out.  

Is that OT for this thread.  

What are you going to do if Henderson continues not to hit lefties?  I think we leave him in there until he figures it out.
