Except for that thing where you can't move on from a $7-8mm player...maybe especially if they have a 2nd guaranteed year.

Looks like Trey will end up with about 42% of his career salaries from this 2023-2024 contract, having attained the grail of FA, and figuring 2025 on won't be much.

Some teams understand the sunk cost fallacy.

I figured he was going to make about 1/5M this year, I was pretty surprised he got that deal from the Cubs.

Did I miss anyone? Verlander has a lot of rumors too, but he's on a 2 year deal. Stroman might be off the market with the Cubs hot streak. I think any of 1-8 makes the Orioles better, to varying degrees.

I still think Steven Matz is going to be in the mix for them. 

4 starts since returning to the rotation with a 2.18 ERA and 25 Ks vs 5 BBs in 21 innings (2.85 FIP). Pitched very well for Toronto a couple years ago, so it’s not like he can’t handle the AL East gauntlet. 

If you can’t land a consistently good arm, maybe a hot hand is the next best thing?

They already have an internal upgrade in Mervis. And it's not like Mancini is a regular starter.  With Bellinger at 1B and Morel at DH they really don't have to play him except for the occasional off day for the those guys.

 Havin to watch Steven Matz pitch for the O's for 2+ seasons would be like a slow death from 1,000 papercuts.

He's a promising young LH SP.  An injury perhaps, or a trade?  Anytime prospects are pulled from games early, at this time of year, the speculation begins.

@Tony-OH has him #27 in the most recent power rankings. 

I wouldn’t think Michael Lorenzen would cost this type of player. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but this could be for Montgomery.
