I was just about to say - the game of the year lasted less than 18 hours. Mullins and Mateo not even in the game until the late innings and they won it. That's called deep depth baby.

Ive watched baseball for more than 60 years..Ive NEVER seen a sequence like we just saw...Mullins saves the game ..then Baumann on a couple of piches later blows the game...and then Mullins TWICE hit the ball hard enough to have a home run and then DOES get the game winner. Yeah, football may bet the ratings and its the most popular game in the land...but man, when baseball is tense and important...and you see something like that...it re-enforces the belief that baseball is the greatest game of ALL. ..The game of second (and THIRD) chances...what an 18 hour window of thrills that was for Oriole fans..

It is pretty incredible.  I think it has to do with the fact that the game of baseball has so many variables going on at once that can influence a game.  Even hitting a round ball with a round bat brings in all sorts of variables.

 

By far the most random sport I have ever played or watched.  The best teams just seem to make the randomness work more often to their benefit.

I can't remember ever seeing a homer after a near miss like that. It is so hard to hit a ball that hard and that far. To do it twice in an AB is insane.
