Ive watched baseball for more than 60 years..Ive NEVER seen a sequence like we just saw...Mullins saves the game ..then Baumann on a couple of piches later blows the game...and then Mullins TWICE hit the ball hard enough to have a home run and then DOES get the game winner. Yeah, football may bet the ratings and its the most popular game in the land...but man, when baseball is tense and important...and you see something like that...it re-enforces the belief that baseball is the greatest game of ALL. ..The game of second (and THIRD) chances...what an 18 hour window of thrills that was for Oriole fans..

Baseball is the greatest game of all when your team is good... It was the worst game of all from 2018-2021 for Oriole fans (for me at least). And unlike football, I have zero desire to watch other teams play. I will take a peak at the WS, that's all. I think that's the difference.

I was just about to say - the game of the year lasted less than 18 hours. Mullins and Mateo not even in the game until the late innings and they won it. That's called deep depth baby.

Yep, Deep Depth as Earl called it. I had almost forgotten about that until you mentioned it.

I think Earl had just gotten dentures around that time so it was hard for him to say without a lisp.

Perfect said, Roy. Couldn’t agree more.

Playoff baseball is just going to be another game for these guys. Look at the week they just had - Tuesday giving up a grand slam in the 9th to lose a game. Thursday goes down to the last pitch with Urias saving the game by keeping a ball in the infield in the 9th. Saturday somehow winning a game after being shut out for 9 innings with Bautista going 2 innings then the ridiculous 9th and 10th innings today.

I get what you’re saying but playoffs is a different animal from the build up to first pitch and the intensity of every pitch. Also, nationally televised games and all eyes are on that game. I think this can handle it but there’s really no preparing for that. Just my opinion.

I’m not old enough to remember 79 and 83, but this team is giving me 2014 vibes.

More 2012 (but better) vibes for me. In both cases it is/was clear a good team's a brewing but they are bringing the noise earlier than expected.

The resiliency of this group is what is impressing me. They have had a few bad losses here and there (first Houston game most recently) that would have sent past Oriole teams reeling into long losing streaks. But they shake it off like it's nothing. Or even in-game. Past teams wouldn't have recovered from the tying HR after the Mullins catch, but they found a way. Just a great season so far.

Hell, Fuji even pitched well. :)

    • I agree Hays is fine to spell Mullins while he figures out how to swing a bat again. I also agree that Hays is disproportionately affected by the wall. If he wasn’t so perpetually dinged up, increasingly expensive and average, he would be an excellent trade candidate.
    • Rubenstein came down the aisle for our section last night during the game tossing out dozens of hats and talking to the fans as he went. Awesome to have an owner that truly loves this team and enjoys being part of the crowd.
    • I  agree that when he swings at strikes, isn’t in perpetual pull mode, and isn’t trying to hit the ball 450 feet, he’s pretty good.
    • He can spell Mullins too. Really nice addition if he can get back to playing like Hayes again. Now, if only we can Mullins going.
    • I think everyone agrees when he’s healthy, he’s pretty good.  But that doesn’t mean he should be starting over Cowser. Maybe against lefties but he’s never been lefty assassin.
    • New Rubenstein updates in the Sun this morning: Rubenstein’s group will soon own 97% of the Orioles.  The prior minority had tag-along rights and almost all have decided to sell (not surprising as change in control is only time you get true market value). It’s not known which minority owners decided to hold on to their shares. Rubenstein reiterated that Elias is the best GM in baseball. Unlike John Angelos, Rubenstein won’t serve as the everyday CEO on the business side.  They are actively recruiting for the role and have retained a search firm. Stadium upgrades could include a modern scoreboard, more premium seating near the field, additional restaurants, and an improved clubhouse. Rubenstein frequently signs autographs with the date and people tell him to stop being such a lawyer.
