Spring Training game broadcasts

Some teams are starting to announce their spring training broadcast schedules. I checked MLB TV and found that the Phillies are broadcasting all or most of their games, including these:

March 5th, 1pm, Orioles at Phillies (Phillies TV)

March 20th, 6pm, Phillies at Orioles (Phillies radio)

Also, MLB Network will be televising the March 14th (7pm) "Spring Breakout" O's vs Pirates game.

If you find any other O's game broadcasts, feel free to add them.

I’ll be there Mar 13-24 and plan to attend several games, including the Spring Breakout game against PIT. Really excited for that one. I also plan to spend a couple days at Twin Lakes watching and trying to get to know a few players.

I’ll try to give a few impressions and updates whenever I’m able.

Side note: I bought all the game tickets I plan to attend earlier this week and I’m glad I did. Not that there’s a “bad” seat, but all the prime seats (in the shade or right on the field) were already sold out. This was not the case last year. There were plenty of seats to choose from at this same time last year. Also, ST ticket prices went up considerably. A front row seat I paid $30 for last year at Ed Smith is now $40.

I’m going to games on March 5, 8, 10 and 13, and will certainly be posting my observations.

Looking forward to it. This should be a fun spring training. Hopefully MASN will televise more than 3 or 4 games.

Jim Palmer mentioned on Orioles Hot Stove that he will be in Baltimore on Feb. 24 to broadcast the first spring training game.  So, at least that’s one game on TV, even if the broadcasters will be remote.

Orioles host the Red Sox in Sarasota that Saturday afternoon 105, so no busses Santander, Mullins or Hays would have to avoid.

Feels like 2/24 will be a day to help the Marketing department out with a strong lineup - will Holliday and/or Mayo be in it?     Unveiling Burnes?    Will Hyde have announced him for Opening Day by then?

I think Feb. 26 is the logical day for the Opening Day starter to pitch.  That puts him on schedule for 2/26, 3/2, 3/7, 3/12, 3/17 (no game 3/18), 3/23, and then Opening Day on 3/28.

Is it a given that Burnes will start Opening Day?   Sometimes that honor goes to the guy who has seniority on the team and not necessarily the best pitcher.   I would say it's possible John Means could get the start.   Palmer got the start in 1980 even though Flanagan was coming off  a Cy Young season.     Flannie went Game 2.   (However, in 1981, Steve Stone got the start after his 25 win season).

I think it's close to a given. When you get one of the top ~5 SPs in MLB, he starts on Opening Day.

I have thought this offseason John Means could be a tool to save Brandon Hyde a Bradish v. Grayson choice, but I think Burnes gives 2024 a clean line, and even the rest of his rotation mates would agree.

I also don't think Mike Elias wants to model getting cute with players of Corbin Burnes' caliber, others of whom he will want on 1 or 2 year terms in years to come until he finds the Orioles long range 3rd October ace.    There, trusting cautiously Bradish can stay there and Grayson can get there.

Brandon Hyde's decision, natch :)

There's no excuse for broadcasters to be calling the games remotely. Unfortunate that MASN is still living in 2020/2021.

The Orioles should announce their ST broadcast  schedule sometime next week. Usually announce it around Valentine's Day.

The Nationals announced their ST broadcast schedule today. Not sure why the Orioles didn't do it at the same time. The Nats are televising 7 ST games (including their Futures game) and will also have approximately 13 games on the radio. I hope the O's will at least match that.
