Even ignoring his sexual offenses I think we've seen that Elias values character and having a solid clubhouse so I don't think he'd entertain the idea of Bauer.

Alleged sexual offences.

Ok so in that case, there have been 3 of the worst sports franchises the last 25 years that are in the DMV area.

Well, back to the point.  There’s always a balance between “going for it” in a particular year with trying to sustain winning over the longer term.  And even though the O’s haven’t won a WS in 40 years, they have a really good shot at a sustained run of winning and I would not want to see them jeopardize that by pushing all their chips in on 2024.

Signing Bauer would be "pushing in all their chips"?

No, I lost the context of TopGunnar’s remark somewhere along the way.  My bad.

I defer to Elias to determine (1) how effective of a pitcher Bauer is likely to be at this stage of his career, and (2) what kind of impact he’d have in the clubhouse.

I don't think it happens, but I wouldn't be opposed to it if it did and I personally think Bauer has a screw loose.

Orioles have been a top 5 worst team in sports the last 25 years. We have  a World Series contending team. But people in here won’t want to add Bauer because of his personal life and what the media has told them. Laugh out loud.

Is it possible for something reported in the media to be true if we don't want it to be true?  🤣

I would much rather sign Ryu or Lorenzen to a 1 year deal than Bauer.  Ryu and Lorenzen are likely to be better than Bauer in 2024 plus haven't had any of the clubhouse issues.  This is not even considering Bauer's past legal issues and potential PR hit for signing him.

Is Clevinger an afterthought for people now?

a guy with a minimum 1 year contract that makes a bad impact on the clubhouse is easily discarded lmao so not sure what that is suppose to mean? If he acts like a moron and has a 1 year min. deal he's gone and if he sucks he's gone, im trying to find the risk here? a week of raging crybabies on tweeter? thats about it.

Yea I hear ya and I agree. I’m not expecting the Orioles to sign Bauer, and maybe that’s a good decision. But at the end of the day I’d prefer not to see Cole Irvin start a playoff game.  No disrespect to Cole or any of the huge Cole Irvin fans bound to come at me for this.

Bauer is certainly worth evaluating. He was whacky before the allegations, for which he has been cleared, but he is a talent. He has his warm-up routine, that many considered radical when he came out of UCLA. Funny how those things have become fairly normal now.

Putting aside, for a moment, the allegations. He obviously is an extreme competitor, along the lines of a Marcus Stroman. The only thing that glares at me when I try to fit him into the Orioles clubhouse is his penchant to rant and take things to social media that should have stayed in the clubhouse. That is not something that will fly with Elias and Hyde, nor will it be ok with the vets already here.

I guess he's an option too.  I think Ryu would be the signing with the most upside.

Still an option?

In a piece published by The Athletic in late January, Olivia Finestead, the mother of Clevinger's 10-month-old child, accused the 32-year-old pitcher of physical and emotional abuse. Finestead agreed to be named in The Athletic's piece.

Finestead alleged that Clevinger choked and slapped her in separate incidents that occurred in June 2022, and said that the pitcher threw used chewing tobacco at the child.

Finestead got in contact with MLB's Department of Investigations last summer, and the league looked into the allegations.

On Jan. 24, 2023, Finestead posted lengthy Instagram story posts about Clevinger, going as far as to post images of the injuries she said she suffered at his hands. Clevinger also allegedly threw an iPad at Finestead when she was pregnant, and Finestead said she finally left him when he "strangled" her.

Clevinger's lawyers issued a statement to The Athletic saying their client denied any wrongdoing.

It sounds like he was mentored by Bauer.  Pass.

    • We do not have to give up Holliday, Basallo, or Mayo to get what we need.
    • So you think Elias will give up one of the top 3 prospects to get upgrades?
    • “Dramatics”? That’s an interesting way of framing my opinion. I promise you I am as calm and cool as a cucumber. There’s no “dramatics” going on here. As you know, numbers fluctuate during any given period of time in the season. Good/great players have bad/cold stretches and bad/terrible players have good stretches. IMO we do not possess the type of top end talent at the back end of the bullpen needed to win multiple rounds against the best opposition in October.  If you are confident in Cano/Kimbrel or worse in Vespi/Baker/Perez/etc getting Soto and Judge out in a big spot late in the game in Yankee stadium in October, that is fine. I am not.  Just as an observer of baseball, Holmes is a much better pitcher than any reliever that we have. I would be much more confident in his talent than any reliever that we have. Now if we had Felix that would be one thing. But this season we do not. And I would hate for a team as good as ours to be held back by not making the needed/necessary move(s) before we get into October.  IMO we did that last season (with the starting pitching) and it didn’t end well. And I acknowledge that everybody doesn’t think like me nor have the same championship expectations/aspirations. Some fans/posters here have stated as much and that they are happy if we have a winning team year after year or if we just make it into the tournament year after year, regardless of results when we get there. And that’s fine. That’s just not my desired outcome. The great thing about this board is that we don’t have to agree and are able to express our opinions.
    • That’s right. Great times are here and more ahead with this group.
    • Over/under on the number of times we walk Judge and Soto in this series?   10?  Nobody else really worries me.
