Means discusses his timetable to return

We're close enough to Norfolk for spring break we're going Friday night.      I hope to see a Means-McDermott or Means-Povich tandem, but we'll see how ready guys are.

Our 2023 champions scored 876 Runs in 149 games.

If Means is really 40 pitches game ready day after tomorrow, I will be hopeful he can step into Cole Irvin's role after one turn.    With the extra off days, they can still give Burnes 5 days rest before throwing the Fenway opener in 2 weeks.    

SP5 Turn 2 then would not be until Saturday 4/13 if the double off days bracketing the Pittsburgh series let them bypass the lefty at Fenway.

Luke Jones says he would get several rehab starts. Means has barely pitched for two years. Expect four or five rehab starts.

3/29, 4/3 and 4/8 would line him up for 4/13 if he could manage 40-60-75 pitches those outings.     I agree 4-5 likelier than 3, plus Monday 4/8 is the universal minors off day.

Either of McDermott or Povich should be good to cover a mid-April game if they feel they really should steer away from Irvin.

He has to build up to 5 innings/80+ pitches just like other pitchers did this spring.  I’d say 4 outings minimum.

McDermott is starting tonight. We will.see if Means pitches today or later in the weekend.

Means pitching for Norfolk tomorrow. 

 

Minor league rehabilitation assignments cannot extend past 30 days unless the player is reinjured. If the assignment takes the full 30 days and Means remains healthy, he would be back with the Orioles on April 30.

Really hoping the rehab goes well. I'd love to get Irvin back into the bullpen where we need a little help.

Every pitcher has a bad day now and again....

I'm not going to believe we can count on Means for anything until he proves it. Not looking good so far.

Basically ST for him… not gonna worry about this right now. If he continues to stink it up in his next outings, we can be concerned. But I wouldn’t view this any different from a ST blowup.
