It's ridiculous Mayo is not getting more opportunities.

And when will Hyde pull the plug on Adley batting 2nd? Its not working right now.

With Adley struggling why not give Mayo a chance at DH today. Let Adley get a real day off if he was hitting like the first half I get it, but he's not otherwise why call Mayo up.

I’m hardly a free Mayo guy, but this would be the spot to let him DH.

Ya I would love a reporter to actually ask Hyde about this absurdity. Why is Rivera/Maton playing over Mayo? This reeks of veteranosity for no reason

Well he’s 2-23 with 13 strikeouts. The real question should be why is he on the team right now.

Bingo!! If Westurg, Urias and Mateo weren't hurt he wouldn't be. Holiday is the lucky one. At least he seems somewhat comfortable at 2nd, though his arm seems lackluster.

Totally fair. How is he expected to start adjusting by playing every 5th day.

in fairness a vast majority of those at bats were in his first call up. He went 1 for 2 in his first game back and was promptly benched for 3 games.

Hyde is begging for a TB lefty reliever to come in and shut us down during a big rally.

I think he’s perfectly comfortable with TB being forced to go with their LH relievers.

For lefties, they have Lovelady, Cleavinger, and Mason Montgomery. We’ve seen Lovelady a few times, and he’s nothing special at all. He’s also pitched in 2 of their last 3, so that could be an issue. Montgomery has pitched one ML inning, after posting a 6.26 ERA in AAA. I doubt they’re scared of him, either.

Cleavinger has been a solid pitcher, but even he has a 3.84 FIP. And they can only use him once — so using him against those 3 LHHs would mean they can’t use him to put us in the O’Hearn dilemma.

On the other hand, even without Fairbanks, they still have Kelly (3.03 ERA), Uceta (0.79 ERA), Rodriguez (2.79 ERA), and Bigge (0.84 ERA) as the righties out of the pen. I would think we win (big time) in the trade-off if they’re using those bum lefties to try to match up instead of throwing those RHP killers.

I assume he’ll get plenty of opportunity to go through the adjustment period next April.

Right now, there are 20 games left in the season and we’re trying to win a pennant race. We’re not really in a position to give charity at-bats to a kid who has done nothing but hurt us at the ML level at bat and in the field.

I’m a big fan of Coby and I have high hopes for him. But I think our fans have been in “build for the future” mode for so long that we’re understandably but probably excessively fixated on developing the kids. Maximizing Mayo’s development at the expense of winning games — and the other 25 guys on the roster — just isn’t where we are at the moment.

If he could at least field, that would be one thing. If he had even shown some signs of it clicking at the plate, you could probably justify it. But he just looks lost. Striking out half the time, and not even hitting the ball that hard. They’re already sticking with Jackson as an absolute black hole in the lineup, which I’m sure makes it even harder to talk themselves into forcing Mayo out there too.

    • Exactly right. He was literally robbed of a game tying 3 run homerun against, I believe it was the Rays.   For all the swing and miss in Cowser's game, he does make a lot of hard contact without positive results.

    • Yep. Henry was supposed to be your closer and answer to collapses like this and then you still don’t use him!   It’s so dumb and so frustrating.
    • Here's the lineup going forward, IMHO: Against Righties Gunnar - SS Mullins - CF Santander - RF Kjerstad - DH Cowser - LF Adley - C O'Hearn - 1B Holliday/Soto - 2B Rivera - 3B Against Lefties Slater - LF Gunnar - SS Santander - RF Adley - C Rivera - 1B Kjerstad - DH Cowser - CF Holliday/Soto - 2B Mayo - 3B At this point, you just don't start Eloy. You give him PH opportunities here/there, i.e. when O'Hearn is facing a lefty, for example. And you have to stop starting O'Hearn so much, especially in the field. I get it, Mounty isn't here, but you can give those opportunities to Rivera. When Ramon is back, I think you need to cut bait w/ Eloy, although knowing Elias, he'll probably option Mayo.
    • I was thinking the same thing regarding the short possessions. The lack of 4th quarter offense had played a big part in these late game collapses.  This team investing in a RB like Henry makes no sense with how the coaches run this offense. That money would've been much better spent on someone who would've kept Faaele on the sideline.
    • Yeah. I mean analytics obviously is huge in baseball these days. Still people like myself who have been watching the 0's since the early 1960's still are entitled to view and comment on things from the eye and between the ears test.  I don't get upset when people speak about deep stats and numbers... Moose saying opinions are obnoxious because people comment about  things from an old perspective is not only kind of dismissive, it's kind of rude too. We all have opinions.
    • And think of how many quick offensive possessions we have too. That leads to a tired defense. They ran Henry once in the 4thQ yesterday. They didn’t target Zay after he caught his TD pass. They used 12 personnel less than last week and barely used play action, despite the fact that Crosby was all over them.    No game plan. No thought on how to do anything. Made Henry a priority and then you don’t know how to use him. Just stupidity all around.
