Orioles attendance 2024

Is there any chance of the Orioles catching any of the teams in front of them with large crowds over the weekend?

No.   They are about 45,000 behind the Mets with two home dates left for each team.  The Mets have the Phillies at home and will draw big crowds this weekend (bigger than ours, probably).   The other teams are too far ahead to catch.

Well, the changes to the flex plans this year led both me ($1200 plan) and my friend ($2500 plan) to not renew for next year. The decision to more severely limit playoff presale access and dramatically reduce the discount on food and drinks at the park just didn’t make it worth it to tie up that much money in advance. So, we’ll likely go to far fewer games next year. Given the press reports and online reaction, I have to think we weren’t alone in our decision making.

I always compare where we are in attendance to payroll. As it stands our attendance will be 19th in the league and payroll 22nd. The Twins are at 19th with 130 million dollar payroll which is 22 million higher than ours. I expect the Nats and Tigers to spend a little this offseason so that 130 million mark for 19th place may move closer to 140. Still gives this team 50-60 million to spend on either resigning guys or free agents.

Ok so 19th it is. Hopefully with back to back playoffs and new ownership who will hopefully be committed to taking payroll up to at least middle of the pack instead of the bottom the fans will start to come back even more so with that commitment and get attendance to the middle of the pack.

Final attendance: 2,281,129.   73 fans short of attendance from 2015, and the highest since then.  Still a ways to go to get back to 2013-14 levels.   Maybe next year.

They easily exceed that if they don’t fall off a cliff these last few months. I know I didn’t want to go to any additional games because of their play. I’m sure others felt the same way.

The increases of ticket prices on season plans could affect total attendance next season, even if the team is good. Offseason acquisitions and the way this team plays in the playoffs will also go a long way in deciding attendance next year.

Seems the Orioles have decided that less people paying more money is the better model for them.

How do you know it will be less people?

I don't. But I do think with large increases to ticket prices you are going have a segment of fans that will go to less games.

I don't think the Orioles really care. If you can get 25,000 people averaging $60 ($1,500,000) a ticket you are going to make more than 30,000 averaging $40 a ticket ($1,200,000).

I'm sure the Orioles have done studies to determine how they can make the most from ticket sales and concessions. I don't think for two seconds they care about fans complaining about ticket prices because they've kinda have understanding of about how many people will be there in a season.

The Orioles very well could draw more than this year with great weather, promotions, and a team that isn't as ridiculously bad/unclutch as they've been since late June.

An offseason where they actually sign/resign/acquire a TOR would also help as well as a true MOO. But that's a discussion for another thread.
