Adley Rutschman 2024

Adley with his fifth dinger and a 3 for 4 night tonight.   He didn’t homer in the first 12 games, so that’s 5 in the last 20.  4 of the 5 from the right side of the plate.

I said in the game thread and I have no data to back it up, but it feels, to me, that he's chasing a lot more as a LHB than he is as a RHB.

He struggled mightily from right side rookie year.  This year he is hitting .470 from right side.

#4 in the AL Batting Title race. The crazy thing is he still has a massive reverse split. He is absolutely on fire as RHB (1.268) vs somewhat alarming slump as LHB (.552). I expect both to normalize but something is up with him on the left side right now. He also has an uncharacteristic 3:1 K/BB this year.

It seems like teams have figured out that he always takes the first pitch. It goes against his approach but he might want to start ambushing those first pitch middle middle FB's.

If that continues I imagine he will make an adjustment.

The home run off Andrew Abbott in the 2-1 game this weekend was first pitch - Brown was attuned to asking about it during the postgame interview.

Adley's response was something like "I was seeing him pretty well and took my chance".

I feel like Adley is the glue for this team. Others can overshadow him a bit, but the winning started when he showed up and he feels like the type of guy that doesn’t need the recognition.

His skillset pairs well with this. Solid defense. Great approach at the plate. Nothing crazy flashy but absolutely essential. A quietly, insanely productive player.

It's not a coincidence the Orioles turned into a better than .500 team the moment Adley joined the Orioles. Having a good catcher makes things so much easier for a baseball team.

Yes, that is interesting.  Of course, several of the listed seasons were in the pre-DH era.  Torre in 1970 played 161 games, including 88 stsrts at catcher and another 72 at 3B.  And people worry about Adley DHing so much when he’s not catching.

It's funny, on the Reddit thread I found it folks are "Is beating it by only 5% really obliterating it?"

Yes it would.  That's a huge number to break a record by.

I’d also say that Adley hitting .324 over a full year isn’t too likely.  But you never know!
