Adley Rutschman 2024

Defensively, Adley’s been like a top goalie behind home plate, leading the majors at 9 blocks above average.  He has not allowed a passed ball all season, and incredibly, only 5 wild pitches have gotten past him in 39 starts at C.

in the 6th inning yesterday when Grayson was starting to lose his command, Adley smothered 3 errant pitches in a 4-pitch sequence, I think.

Though his throws are often bounced or off-line, he has his CS% up to 25%, better than the league average of 22%.  He’s also made one error on the season.

It could be that Gunnar doesn't really want to sign with the O's but just wants to have the biggest contract in baseball.  Boras already hinted at that by saying that a player like Gunnar adds billions to a franchise value.  Imagine what Boras will be asking for.

Os83 , that part is what I’ve been wondering about also . We all like to think Gunner , Adley , Holiday & Westburg will automatically sign extensions with Orioles . But how do we know for sure ?

Adley is just casually on a .289/32/121 pace, as an above average (if flawed) defensive catcher. That’s a performance that’d be in the MVP conversation some years.

Too bad for him he shares a team with Gunnar Henderson, and Aaron Judge exists.

It is amazing how little fanfare he gets on this site.  He does not make the flashy play like Gunnar at short but is the steady force that I think this team revolves around.  It is not a coincidence that this team started winning immediately when he was promoted.

Perhaps he should be in the MVP conversation now. This Yahoo article has him #5 in the race. Not too shabby. https://sports.yahoo.com/checking-in-on-the-mlb-mvp-races-which-players-have-added-their-names-to-the-mix-through-the-first-third-of-the-season-213000493.html
