Interesting new tactic to avoid draft being discouraged by MLB

Has anybody ever heard of this one. I wonder if the Orioles have been involved.

Interesting. We took Luis Almeyda which seemed to be a tactic like this.

We’ve been linked to another NJ to Dominican prospect in next January’s class, Frandy Guillen. Hope this doesn’t affect his possible signing.  The key thing is we can’t encourage kids to leave the US; if they leave on their own accord we can sign them.

I would think of this as a loophole that teams and players were taking advantage of.   Unless MLB gave this same warning three years ago I don’t think the Orioles violated any rules or should be subject to any penalties.  This strikes me as MLB saying “It’s not against the letter of the law but we don’t like it.  We know it’s going on.  Don’t do it anymore or else.

Funny how they changed the tanking rules in baseball only when the Yankees got affected by the Orioles dominating and building a team to keep them hurting for a half decade.  Look for rules to change whenever the Yankees get annoyed.

MLB has a strong desire to keep NY teams at the top.

Or when the Union got pissed off at the absurdly low payroll the Orioles and Astros were throwing out there.

Why shouldn't the U.S. kids do this?  Isn't it similar to getting the HS GED early and enrolling in Community College or any college.  If 15/16 year olds are smart enough to go to med school/engineering school that go early.  Baseball isn't a contact sport.  Why not start to make money as early as possible?

It’s a challenge to do unless your parents are from another country and have family there.  I’ve seen a few kids do this with families form DR.  For someone with no ties to another country it would be super difficult and a pretty massive gamble.

The Bryce move was less controversial because he didn't escape the guardrails of the draft regulating one and only one Club he had the opportunity to sell his labor to.

Last CBA round during the international draft negotiations Tony Clark gave out a quote like "in principle we don't like drafts of any kind"

Being selfish for Orioles and with Elias having the extra pool money this year because of Gunnar, I've wondered if Ethan Holliday could quick drop out of 11th grade with a few weeks to go, grab that GED, play one game for Stillwater Community College and earn reclassification to 2024.     Then he just needs to pull that John Elway or Eli Manning thing.
