Seems that Tampa might be selling. Civale is heading to the Brewers.

Wasn't expecting them to sell this early, but a smart move in my opinion.

They are getting Baz and Springs back I'd guess that Eflin goes soon as well.

What ??  They waving the white flag 🏳️ already ?  They’re only 3 games behind the last WC spot

Exactly. Just three back, so it's interesting that they'd send Civale off.  Maybe they decided to move on from him but keep their team together otherwise? Dunno.

Even by that metric, there are 24 3B with better arms. He doesn't have a strong arm, it's obvious, he was 21st percentile last year at 2B.

I think you’re probably right that Westburg would have a below average arm in the OF.  I think you’re wrong that his arm is weaker than Cedric’s, due to the difference between IF and OF throws.   Just for example, last year Mookie Betts averaged 88.1 as a RF but 79.3 as a 2B, and this year he’s averaging 78.3 as a SS.

You're probably right, but I'd maintain he wouldn't have a significantly better arm than Mullins.

Oh well, that’s their business .  But I can say I don’t blame the fans in Tampa for their poor attendance

I don’t know, Cedric sets the bar pretty low (41st of 50 CF).  I guess there’s only one way to find out, and I doubt we’ll find out.

TB probably feels what they have coming back replaces Civale, so might as well trade him and get value.

Same thought process I have with dealing Mounty.

Agreed. I still think it's more likely that Westburg will be traded before they try him in the OF. (I don't think either scenario will happen, realistically.) I think Westburg to 2B and Mayo to 3B will get a trial run at some point in the very near future.

The Rays traded a highly rated prospect for exactly 1 year of Civale. It will be interesting to see what they get back from MIL.

Civale has a 5.01 ERA.  He’s going to get replaced by Shane Baz who’s twice as talented.  Not only is it not a white flag, it’s probably a move that makes them better right away.

They got back a 20 year Venezuelan intl FA that is doing well in A ball.

If you could get better production for less cost and pick up a talented player in return, wouldn’t you do that?

They gave up a top 75 prospect. I guess they are lucky to get something with the way Civale is pitching this year.

    • I stopped reading at page 8 because I'm losing ground on this post: 1. The hitting coaches and the "Offensive Strategy Coach" needs to be the 1st out the door. Is the OSC guy a analytics guy, while the regular HC's are hands on "here's how you swing" type? During game 1, Ragans and Burnes were cruising along, when Ced led off the 3rd with a double. I was thinking maybe Hyde knew this could be a close game, however, McCann did not square to bunt, nor give any indication he would be pushing the ball to the right side and move Ced over.  The Royals never had to change their defensive approach.. and no message was sent to the Royals manager that we weren't above small ball. Yet, like time and time again this year, runners were never advanced and Hyde let the players play. McCann is a pretty good bunter (that I recall). So why not show your willingness to move runners? 2. Does Sig and team put out a game map with analytics for everything baseball, and every situation? What happens if Hyde goes against the "analytics" and tells a player to bunt a guy over? Does Hyde get called into the office? I'm serious, is Hyde a puppet for the analytics or does he have free rein in-game? The answer to the question would be whether I think Hyde should stay or go. While Mountcastle has truly struggled at times with outside pitches, he's a very good 1st baseman.. and does keep a pretty good average/HR/RBI etc. He's frustrating, but not a failure. We can't keep getting rid of every player any more.. we don't have a lot of people in the minors, and who know how much Mr. R is willing to spend.
    • Yes, sorry, 3B Westburg. Seemed to hold it down pretty good pre injury.
    • They will have a ton of pressure on them next year if they make the playoffs. They need to somehow just get a win and that should loosen everyone up but that first win will be tough. Next year is a longgg ways away.
    • I was on the fence around August but he completely lost me now time to move on.
    • Or the year after or the year after that or the year after that. 41 years of wait till next year. It may never come. Not with these chokers
    • They will be a strong team and probably make the playoffs again. This week's result doesn't change that.  But, I think there have been some meaningful obstacles thrown at the team's contention window. Adley's collapse, Holliday/Mayo's failed debuts, pitching health struggles, a general thinning of the prospect herd, and now an accelerated "can't win in the playoffs" narrative bomb.   For an almost two year stretch from summers '22-'24, basically everything except those few games against Texas was coming up roses. Now they are going to have to work through some muck.
