The 2024 Trade Deadline

So if we trade Mountcastle, call up Mayo, and Mayo struggles mightily, the backup plan is Urias getting more ABs?

How much would Mayo have to struggle at DH to be worse than Mounty has been since April. A .600 OPS?

Everyone needs to get over their PTSD of the Jackson Holliday 0-for.

Rosenthal wrote this morning that the O’s are open to a Flaherty reunion, have checked in on virtually every quality reliever available, and that Mountcastle is likely the most position player to go with Mullins less likely.

Yup,  but if we’re waiting to get something for Mounty though, then that is going to go down to deadline day. Meanwhile, the offense is offensive.

DFA him gives you 10 days to trade him right? Can you do revocable waivers?

I’d play O’Hearn and Kjerstad more.

I’m okay with Flaherty if he’s one of two starters. And cheap in regards to chips sent to them.

I doubt you see Holliday. But, Norby is here and more ready than Holliday anyway.

What makes this true? Norby’s age?

Holliday has outperformed Norby at AAA this season. And even with the questions of his arm strength/ability to handle SS, he is still a better defender than Norby.

Makes our negotiating weaker. Also, let’s just be honest… we have a lot of struggles right now. Mayo up for Mountcastle isn’t a miracle fix. Maybe Mayo puts up .100+ OPS points higher, but that’s not why we’re losing games.

Calling Up Mayo and Holliday doesn’t fix Adley’s struggles. Our rotation is in shambles too.

We need to get it together as a team. Maybe some moves will inject life into this team.

I know he's the whipping boy of the moment by why in the word would you need to DFA Mountcastle?

In what world does that make sense?

Elias is waiting on the perfect move. One, waiting to September for rosters to expand from 26 to 28. In order not to lose anyone. Two, waiting on a trade offer for one of Urias or Mountcastle to open up a spot.

Mayo is no guarantee. Just like Holliday wasn’t. But if you’re afraid to call up those guys with their AAA stats and prospect rankings, then when will you not be afraid to call up a prospect.

That stretch of having no days off got us. We’re a tired team. But… we have fresh legs in the minors and great quality fresh legs. It’s time to trust our depth and our guys.

We are just coming off the all-star break (being off for 4 consecutive days). That’s not really a valid excuse at this point. Everybody is fatigued at this point in the season.

Then put together a fast trade. As I’ve said, I’d make Holliday my move next year. Norby and Mayo … we need guys to work counts do something beyond hitting homers.

It’s not an excuse. It’s the truth. We had 4 off days too in the playoffs before Texas and were still a tired team.

So our GM needs to get us the rotation replacement for Bradish. Elias needs to get us a rotation replacement for Suarez. Make room for the young/fresh legs.

Who the heck even cares about a reliever right now?

I thought Adley and Gunnar and Colton were those type of guys?

Until they got to the majors and stopped being those guys.

Almost as if the team would rather they be more aggressive.

We saw what passive Adley and Gunnar looked like.
