It will be interesting to see how they handle Norby. Norby can play 2B and corner outfield, but he's a below average defender at 2B.  The Orioles history suggest Norby will be a bench guy for now

Interesting that Norby is getting the start right away. Could this be a change in philosophy by the Orioles? Urias is 0-for-5 with 4 Ks and two walks against Gausman so maybe has contributed to Norby getting the start. Either way, glad to see it.

I don't fault Elias for signing Vieira.   He likes his arm but know he has control problems.    Now  Elias will try to get him through waivers to Norfolk where they can work with him to improve.  

Just have to see how it goes.

I'm going to assume for now it's mainly about Urias' SSS numbers against Gausman.

That said, you might as well see what he looks like in a ML setting and it doesn't hurt for scouts to see him ahead of the trade deadline.

I'd say Norby is more like early career Jeff Kent prior to his, let's say sudden bump in power in the late 90s and early 2000s after the age of 29 years old, except with worse defense. Kent's 1992-1996 slash line of .274/.327/.450/.777 seems about where I would expect him to settle into when it's all said and done.

Not buying it.  They'll play him today, maybe tomorrow, then give him the Stowers/Kjerstad treatment.  

Unless he busts out with a huge game or something.

Probably only playing today because Urias fouled a ball off his foot yesterday, lol.

I will remain skeptical myself until proven otherwise. Norby is definitely on par with Stowers as a prospect and we've seen how Stowers is used. Kjerstad is a better prospect than both. 

The thing he has going for him is Urias has been pretty awful this year at the plate.

Yeah, I am skeptical, too.  I expect Norby to go back down after Mateo's head clears up.  This'll be short lived.

I wouldn't be surprised if Norby starts a lot. I think the comparison of Norby to Stowers/Cowser/Kjerstad is maybe not the most relevant one-- the question is the deference they'll give Urias vs the deference they give Hays/Mullins/Santander/Mountcastle/O'Hearn.

      Something stood out to me last night about Kimbrel. The Os needed an out in the 8th inning and there doesn’t seem like there was a consideration to have Kimbrel get a 4 out save. Now I can’t say I blame Hyde for that, just that it could be an issue come playoff time.  Most teams are able to ask their closers to do that and I’m not sure the Os will do that with him or even trust him to do that. They would do that with Felix at times. Just have to get multiple high leverage relievers this deadline.

      Trusting 2 rookies, one who was not good in his brief stay in MLB and has also been hurt, and one who is marginal at 3B and inexperienced at 1B, seems very risky defensively. I'm not sure Elias would put Holiday and Mayo on a team going to the playoffs given their defensive limitations. I could be mistaken. That OF is very left handed, with the exception of Santander.       The thinking would be to let Kimbrel absorb some of the 3 run, and 2 run, save attempts while not going forced to go with Bautista in back to back games so often. If Dave Robertson is a perennial 1 yr 8-10ish million reliever as a set up man, then Kimbrel at 13 is pretty fair.  It’s a long ways away. More focused on this year. As of now, Kimbrel is an All Star. Agreed that this is possibly his high water mark as far as his averaged numbers go.

      We were watching on TV and my daughter was the first to say how loud it seemed.  It definitely came thru on TV.

      He had several days off during the losing streak and it appears to have helped him. What worries me is even if Hyde does a better job managing his innings in the second half there isn’t much he can do in the playoffs if he is our defacto closer.
