Jim Bowden?  Nice to hear but does anyone put any stock into what he says.

Honeycutt may very well be a dead pull hitter but Bowden is the first I’ve read saying it and, curiously, a few of his highlights are oppo homers.

Not that you can’t get talent later in the draft but it’s few and far between.

So, this draft likely comes down to 2 things:

1) Can you develop Honeycutt?

2) Becht vs O’Farrell. (If you prefer a different player to Becht, insert name there)

I understand that crazy things can happen after the first 10 rounds, but the idea of going under slot so you can take an upside arm later still doesn’t sit right with me. We end up spending millions on round 2-4 players with mid profiles while we skip pitching that typically has better profiles than the over slot guys we get later.

I really don’t like where I stand on this because I hate to disagree with the smartest front office the Orioles have had in 40 years. But I do.

That’s why he’s the smartest guy in the room, right?  Did you see ME talking to Honeycutt, had food in his mouth and grinning from ear to ear when handed the phone?  He felt they got a steal for sure.

I watched a clip of Honeycutt saying his approach to hitting fastballs is to go Center-Right field and then to pull breaking pitches.  Not sure how the results align with the approach.

Pretty much what the Orioles teach/prefer.   Maybe everyone teaches it.

He is a little better at evaluations than proposed trades, but I generally agree.

Ryan Prager looks interesting.  Perhaps a lefty version of Bradish with the exaggerated over the top delivery but with less velocity.  Maybe the O's can work with him like they did with Bradish to maximize his potential.

He's gone to Arizona

I found this an interesting read. They talked about Yesevage and his 22" vert on his 4S, but it won't be that in the MLB due to the difference in the balls. Just an interesting read, not the Bible, obviously.

    • This is so frustrating when ABS is available.
    • 15 bad calls.  13 in the Mets favor.  If we are keeping track. I think despite the stats, that this team looks like it has little momentum and just feels a little listless.
    • After watching Adley the last few weeks I just think something looks off with him.  I am guessing he is playing through something that is really nagging or was playing through something that has affected his swing.  His posture and balance is not similar to where it was last year.  It just looks like he is swinging with more upper body rotation which looks labored.   Also, even though he doesn't have a gun his throws look like they are really lacking zip.  Lots of one hops to second that aren't even really close to throwing anybody out.  I know much of the blame can go on the pitchers but at this point it almost appears that anyone with speed gets a double if they get on first somehow.  That is not a recipe to win close games.   The last thing I will mention which I hate to say since I love the guy, he does look a little heavy to me.  Maybe it is just him aging and that is the way he is filling out but most catchers lose weight during the season and he looks bigger.  Put it to you this way, when you put McCann and Adley side by side, who looks like they are in better physical condition? I don't mean to sound critical but he has not looked like himself for a couple months now.  Maybe it is his back, or when he got hit on the hand.  Catching does take its toll so maybe that is just the wear and tear on his body.  Just feels like this season so far has been a drop off from last season and I guess I was expecting an uptick.
    • Akin was fantastic last night. Especially notable as his usage went completely against the Hyde/Sigbot pattern: he extended Akin for a second inning even when other arms were available, and he was matched up against all RHB in the second inning (including JD). But we have seen flashes like this from Akin before. I am not ready to trust him although he is probably doing enough to make the playoff roster.
    • That's the kind of drop the O's will NEED to see from Honeycutt as he progresses, in order for that pick to work out.  If Fabian maintains that drop in k-rate at AAA, he'll be a McKenna-plus kind of guy. More power, more defense, similarly bad hit tool.
    • I’d say dropping his K rate in AA from 37.5% in 2023 to 29.9% this year is pretty solid progress.  He might even see a further drop in the land of the robo-ump.  The overall K rate is 24.3% in the Eastern Lesgue, 23.1% in the International League.
    • Mountcastle never improved his offense. He’s the same hitter that Buck publicly criticized for not getting on base enough. I hope the Orioles start playing Mayo at first every night with the Tides so he’s a more valid/experienced option for next year.
