That is a little much for me. I would want Robert coming back with Crochet if we are giving up that much.

I would be open to Cowser and perhaps one guy from OP's group for Crochet.

I’m not getting on you, but why would CWS from their perspective trade Crochet for less than what was offered for Cease?

I’m among this trade all day and twice on Sunday.  It’s not a robbery. Just fair.

Where are you getting that we offered that much? All they ended up getting was MLB #85 and a few guys lower than that. If they passed on Cowser that was extremely dumb of them and if I were a fan I would hope they don't pass on him again as his stock has risen.

He does not help win the World Series because of his innings limitations.

Possibly, I’d trust our guys to come up with a plan for that. Maybe he deloads a bit. Maybe 3 IP starts in August with a 6 man rotation.

Imagine having him to game 2 in OPACY as a lefty?

always love when people nit pick at time frames when there is an entire year, i can pop up a season stat total between Cowser & Carrol and say Cowser is the 100x better player but that is just not the case.

There were close to 1k pages of posts in the offseason, across two boards, for the same trade for Cease. Crochet has the extra half season of control and an extra postseason.

It's closer than the vote totals seem to indicate IMO.  I honestly wouldn't be against it because I do think Crochet is top shelf talent.  And it does cash out some strong/buried assets too.

I landed on appreciating what Cowser adds all around vs. questioning the bump he'd provide for 2024.

Too many eggs in one basket for me.  Usually you either go quantity or quality.  This feels like both quality and quantity.  You are trading away 3 possibly 4 guys that can go directly into their starting lineup.  You never see a 4 for 1 with that much major league ready guys.  It usually 1 or 2 major league guys then a few lottery tickets with some upside.   Cease got you one major league ready prospect, a 21 year old decent pitcher in AA, A young toolsy outfielder in A ball and a 29 year old relief pitcher in the majors.

I wouldn't give up both Cowser and Stowers in the same deal.  I know we have a glut of left-handed OF but trading two would leave us with little depth.  I'd rather give Stowers a longer look than deal him as the 4th piece in a deal with Cowser when we have other guys of similar (limited) value.  I would be willing to headline a package with Cowser, though, for a high end pitcher like Crochet.

Something tells me that given all of the smoke around Cease in the offseason that there may be some fatigue between these front offices.  Seems unlikely that they make a deal if they weren't able to see eye to eye a few months ago.

Look what the White Sox asked for and then what they ended up getting.  Two completely different things.  They got one top prospect, two nice lottery tickets in A ball and a decent reliever.

    • Last year Shohei held up the market until just after the winter meetings, but I think Soto and Burnes being so far ahead of the pack it could play out like the Cole/Strasburg/Rendon year where the top echelon went boom, boom, boom.  2024 winter meetings are December 9-12.     Boras has a lot of the cards at the top of the market.    A fly on the wall of Steve Cohen and David Stearns conversations how to be "smart", as Mike Elias put it, might hear interesting stuff. Elias has about 2 months to form recommendations with whatever budget there is.
    • It really does not matter how many times you say it or how many ways.  The Orioles have blocked prospects, but Holiday simply isn't one of em.  He got his shot earlier than anyone.  It din't work out.  Hopefully he will be good to go next year.
    • Sure. We have an extremely unbalanced, LH heavy lineup, especially in the OF. Mullins has established himself as a low .700 OPS guy at the plate, and will be walking at the end of the season. Might as well get something for him this offseason while making our roster more balanced.
    • Pulling on that trusty but extremely confusing data/graphic that @Tony-OH was referencing earlier, we see the following swing rates for Adley in the various zones (2022 / 2023 / 2024): Heart: 67% / 66% / 63% Shadow: 47% / 47% / 51% Chase: 19% / 18% / 26% Waste: 3% / 3% / 3% The short answer is that he did swing at a lot more bad pitches this year than he had before. And at less good pitches. One could probably quibble about whether shadow pitches are entirely “bad,” but there’s no doubt that pitches in the chase zone are just bad pitches to try to hit.
    • I love to watch a Staff NCO completely lose it on his crew when they underperform in a crucial scenario. It's a thing of beauty when you see a GySgt, a SFC or a chief petty officer just go off on his group. The language is colorful, the volume is peaked and the intimidation factor is at an alltime high. If you've never seen it before in person you just don't appreciate the impact.  I recall entering a squad bay as a young LT and seeing my HMC holding a young sailor about 4 inches off the ground by his neck.  The remaining members of the squad bay were standing at attention next to their racks. The Chief was "providing focused and explicit instruction," for the young seamen. The sailors all appeared to be paying absolute attention to the instruction while not uttering a single word. I apologized to them both for the interuption as I moved to the next squad bay.  As I left I made a mental note to myself to check the chief's footlocker for bodies.....
    • Yeah, everyone's different.  I can understand why a bad back and a bad hand would make someone an ineffective hitter. But Adley's chase rate went from 81st percentile to 47th percentile on statcast.
