Perfect time to make a roster move or two

No. They could keep him up longer than that though. Maybe thru end of month.

I doubt it happens.

I just doubt they bring him up now. Let him play the next 2 games and get the at bats in AAA.

Well, depends on whether you want extra rest for the other 4 guys.

The 5th game after the break is at MIA. Technically if they wanted guys to go every 5 days could wait until 27th vs SD to use a #5. That said we are talking about him missing only one start.

I agree. Just saying if they wanted to get his feet wet. It does cause a 40 man move obviously. AAA has 4 day break also coming up.

We have to be getting pretty damn close to the bottom of the barrel with BP guys. Baker, Burch Smith, Vinny Nattoli. I guess at least Smith looked decent in his first appearance last night

They’ve been pretty good at getting effective bullpen pieces off the scrap pile

I can honestly say that’s the first time I’ve ever heard the name Vinny Nattoli. I have to assume he’s a real player since that’s a Roch tweet but it’s odd because I typically at least have heard of these dudes before they get to the ML team.

Vinny Nattoli sounds like the guy who owns a pizza shop here in West Springfield MA.

The 5th game after the break is on 7/24, so can't we just bring up Povich then? He would have been down for 11 days at that point (starting today). So, we wouldn't necessarily have to have Irvin make a start against Miami.

They picked him up last week. He actually has a pretty solid resume. I'm interested to see him.

This guy could be the next Felix B.....

This is his 9th team. The Mariners, Jays, Diamondbacks, Yankees, Phillies, Cubs, Mets and A's couldn't get anything useful out of him. Maybe the 9th time is the charm.

Pitchers have to be down 15 days.

    • My main reason for posting the article was informational and the second reason was Sports Guy poking fun at the “internet batting coaches” who said the leg kick was a problem.   Apparently, it was.   My main issue with Holliday was always more so with his pulling off the ball, aka bailing out.  Ryan Ripken showed the difference of then and now using video but you also see the quote from Holliday in this article about “direction”. I just thought it was interesting.
    • Personally, I think the best we can hope for is Grayson is available mid to late September and will be able to be fresh for a playoff start.  Saying that, he did not come back very mechanically sound during his last lat issue and it took awhile for him to get back on track. Elias holding a press conference to update about injuries is certainly never a good thing if his past injury update conferences are any indication.
    • Stiven Martínez just turned 17 on Thursday, so he’s one of the youngest players in the league as the cutoff is that you must turn 17 by August 31 of the current season in order to sign that year. In that regard he follows Basallo, and Joshua Liranzo as promising DSL prospects who played most of their first season at 16. Martinez’ calling card is his plus, maybe ++, power and a plus, maybe ++, throwing arm.   His weakness is swing and miss.   He’s over 30% this year. He profiles as a RF as long as he doesn’t lose too much speed as he ages and fills out. It certainly looks like he’s punched his ticket to the FCL next spring.
    • Watching Eflin pitch last night reminds me of how a mature, playoff-caliber, veteran pitcher is supposed to look like. The fact that the Orioles have him next year too is fantastic, but with Grayson going down, his presence in the rotation is huge. Basically we'll go into the playoffs with Burnes and Eflin at the top of the rotation giving the team two very good shots to win. After that we need one of Kremer, Suarez or Rogers to step up significantly.
    • I'm not saying letting both walk is a complete failure, but it will certainly be disappointing. Both are going to command top dollar this winter.
    • I enjoyed our overall performance last night too. Elfin throws strikes and doesnt lose his poise or command. Our defense was solid, and the hitting was dominant. But remember, this is an extremely weak hitting Rays lineup, this may not have been the same kind of game against the Yankees or Red Sox lineup. That said, I was happy with the performance and never felt worried about the outcome, which was a start difference in many games in the last six weeks.
