I said they would bring up one of those guys. I probably should have wrote Vavra/Soto.

Right, but they can't bring up both Mayo and one of those guys, which is what I thought you were implying.

Not sure where in the hand the injury exactly was, looked like towards the base of his thumb?

It if is any consolation I fractured the base of my thumb (where all the little bones are right at the thumb joint) hammering of all things.  Not hitting it but the vibration from the hammer fractured it.  I felt it as soon as I did it.  A little pop.  This happened about 45 days ago.

Anyway the good news is I never needed a cast.  It did hurt quite a bit at first and turned black and blue, and I even bowled with it using that thumb for a month or so, 3 x a week.  Of course it kept hurting because I never gave it a chance to rest.  But as soon as I started to bowl 2 handed (you don't insert the thumb into a hole 2 handed but instead lay your thumb on top of the ball) it started to feel better right away and now it feels fine.

Again this was just 45 days ago and I did not get it treated and I used it like normal.  Which I am sure Westburg will do the opposite of.  So he should be back well before the end of the season.

I’m shocked his hand was fractured.  Honestly, it didn’t look that bad when it happened.   I figured they pulled him because the score was 9-3 so why not get some ice on it.

Mayo seems like the logical move, but since when does logic dictate anything that happens these days?

Westy was not base of thumb.  He was hit on edge of the pad just below pinky finger.

Ahhhh.    I would think he would have about the same healing time as me then. 1-2 months.   The hands and fingers get a pretty good blood supply, which promotes healing.  In football I am sure he would probably just keep playing but to hold a bat I am sure is painful.

Thanks,  Blue Jays pitchers, by the way.  McCann to the face and Westberg out for the season.  That's solid work.

Somebody on Toronto should have been plunked today. Obviously not intentional by them but come on. McCann gets his face taken off and now we lose one of our top 5 position players?

That is what I thought as well.

Why?

What would that have accomplished?

If it’s not intentional then why should anyone get plunked?

I will predict Elias says screw it and calls up Mayo. The heck with playing it safe at this point.

Holliday will act as backup SS for now, Urias backs up 3B and 2B.

Soto/Vavra/Maton remain in AAA in case of further emergency.

I would call up Mayo and just alternate him and Urias at 3rd.   Leave GH as SS and JH at 2nd.

We all wanted to see Mayo and this by far seems the most logical move to me.

That’s what I’d do, too.  Fortunately, Urias has hit very well of late.

I have never been a real big believer in that especially since I don't think either Mac or Jordan were thrown at intentionally.

Just guys pitching who were wild.   If someone intentionally throws at a  player I can understand the rationale of retaliation, but I don't think that was the case here.
