I disagree on the take that Kremer gets rattled or gets too emotional. I think that’s an old evaluation of him and he’s been much better at that aspect of pitching this year. Last night is even a fine example of it. He was getting absolutely jobbed at the top of the strike zone over and over again, and was able to work around it anyway. It’s Kremer game 3 for me, and though I like Big Al a lot, it’s not all that close a decision.

Emotional can be okay.     You can be cutting yourself off from a source of strength if your entire institutional ethos is trying to Mr. Spock your way to defeating Juan Soto's team.

I don't think that's how baseball or real life works, though it can be tidy and comforting if everything can be compartmentalized that way.

Pitchers - we haven't really seen very geeky SIGBOT tinkering but I think that is probably what the situation calls for if Burnes and Eflin split.   Neither Kremer nor Suarez should get much opportunity to yield a bushel of season ending runs.

Honestly, for a 4th SP if we make it to a seven game series, depending on the matchup part of me is tempted to go with Povich with a quick hook ready for Suarez or another bulk arm.

Povich at OPACY is tempting to me too. On the road, I’d go Suarez without hesitation though.

Is Povich going to make the postseason roster? The bullpen has four lefties as it is, and I can't see Povich getting one of the four starting slots.

He won't make the WC roster, but it resets after every round so its possible for later in the playoffs.

It should also be noted that all 4 WC series ended in two game sweeps last year.  So the 'game 3' start could very well be game 1 of the ALDS.  Not sure that would change anyone's answer, but it might lend itself to less of the 'piggyback' approach knowing its not a winner take all.

I would go Kremer either way.

Unless another pitcher gets hurt, why would that happen? Is he going to get a lefty bullpen spot ahead of Akin, Coulombe, Perez, or even Soto? Is he going to take a rotation spot from Burnes, Eflin, Suarez or Kremer? You don't need a fifth starter in any round of the playoffs.

It’s not likely to happen but it’s not a zero chance. I think it is a zero that he makes the WC roster. Was just pointing out that when he doesn’t, it doesn’t necessarily close the book on him for later rounds.

Yeah if Povich is in the mix, it’d be because we want him as the #4 in a later series over Suarez. It would depend on how the rotation lines up going into the series and when that start would occur (Game 1/2 or Game 3/4) but there’s a scenario where we know our 4th spot is due to pitch at home and we go with Povich. It’s not a huge sample size or anything but I think his numbers at Home edge out Suarez.

I like Kremer but it should be a quick hook in that scenario.

I'm more concerned that Suarez will have to cover multiple innings in Games 1 or 2. This is why we need GRod healthy and able to pitch multiple innings.

Looking at the Twins box tonight made me think of this thread a little bit.

Simeon Woods-Richardson got tagged in the 1st - Baldelli started the relievers in the 2nd, and they have a 12/0 K/BB in 6 innings.

Nice seeing Coulombe and G. Soto looking good tonight.

Obviously your Game 3 options depend on the length Burnes and Eflin give you in a split.
