Postseason awards?

Wow, I know we hate the Sox on this site, but NOBODY thinks Josh Beckett is the AL Cy Young award winner other than me?

Well CC has pitched 40 more innings with a slightly lower ERA, and he has the edge with the advanced stats. I think he clearly deserves it more. Carmona and Lackey have had better years as well imo.

I'm surprised so many are going with Rollins. David Wright was the best player in the NL this year, but I understand some won't go with him because they fell a game short of the playoffs. But Holliday also had a better year than Rollins, and his team is in a playoff today, but maybe they need to get in for some to vote for him. Ok, lets look at the Phillies where Chase Utley was the best player on that team, better offensively and defensively. Yes, he missed 30 games, but his overall value was still higher imo.

I think Jimmy Rollins was the most valuable player IMO. Doesn't necessarily mean the BEST player.

He set the table for the eventual division winners, was able to drive in almost 100 runs from the LEAD-OFF spot (spent his entire season with the pitcher batting in front of him and STILL was able to amass almost 100 RBI). Scored almost 140 runs which is incredible. Provided 30 HR power from the SS position while swiping 40+ bags.

He was the catalyst for their entire offense and in an era where the big boppers always tend to win the award, I'm giving it to the guy who I feel sparked the Phillies' remarkable season with his outstanding production.

Also it doesn't hurt that he was on my fantasy team that won first place:D .

The best player is the most valuable imo. More production equals more value. Again, he had a great year, I'd put him in the top 5, but I'm not going to buy into the spark argument.

I think the NL MVP is definitely between Rollins and Holliday, and I don't know how to decide who should win. I'm completely torn.

David Wright was probably the best player, but I don't mind going with someone who was at least very, very close to as good if they led their teams to the playoffs.

Is anyone else surprised that Dmitri Young won comeback player of the year in the NL? I thought Josh Hamilton would be a shoo in, but I guess it doesn't count unless he was in the majors before?

I think that's probably correct. I guess they have some sort of "eligibility" rules for Comeback Player. Technically, since Hamilton had never been in the majors before, he had nothing to "come back" to.

Define very close. If you define it the way I do, they weren't very close to Wright.

Holliday had better offensive numbers than Wright almost across the board (Wright had slightly better OBP and obviously a ton more steals). Thats not park adjusted, but they were very close offensively.

Rollins can't match the OPS+ of the other guys, but theres a lot to be said for his all around great play, plus he's doing it from a less offensive position.

I think its very hard to argue that Wright, Holliday, and Rollins are not very close in the race for who was the most valuable player.

NL MVP: David Wright

AL Cy Young: CC Sabathia

NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy

AL ROY: Brian Bannister

NL ROY: Ryan Braun

AL Manager: Eric Wedge

NL Manager: Bob Melvin

Would the posters who think Holliday is the NL MVP take a look at his home/road split and try to convince me he's not a Coors Field creation?

And would the posters who think Beckett should win the AL Cy Young please convince me that they've even looked at the stats of the leading contenders?

Although I'd vote for Rollins....who cares about Coors Field? Holliday is extremely valuable to his team and would be more than deserving of this award. His team happens to play in that park. I'm so sick of hearing people whine about numbers from Coors Field as if they mean less to the Rockies than other people's numbers do to other teams.

Uh, just about anyone who wants to have a clue what they're talking about when they compare Holliday to Rollins and Wright.

His OPS is 859 on the road and 1127 at home. That's a difference of 298. He hit 11 home runs on the road. Eleven.

    • Updated as May 6th.. Big drop for Baumler due to velocity drop and lack of pitches thrown per start. A few new names break into top 30 and with the FCL playing one game, Almeyda and Wager (rehab) pop onto the list now that they've played. Liranzo should show up next week.
    • Irvin will be the one to go to the pen. You also wonder if the Os look to trade a trade a starter, especially if Povich and maybe McDermott show they can come up and help if needs be.  I tend to doubt the Os go this route but I wouldn’t completely dismiss it. They have to figure out some way to get in a real back end reliever to go with Kimbrel, Cano and DC.  They aren’t going to trade Mayo or Basallo and may not move Kjerstad for one either. So, that leaves a lot of other good prospects or taking from the Ml roster.  All of it makes sense on different levels.
    • Yea but for a piece that helps now.  I don’t think I trade him for a prospect package unless it’s some kind of high end pitching prospect that should be ML ready at some point this year or especially next year. That said, I don’t think that pitcher will be available for Santander, so getting something that helps now for him is something we absolutely should be looking to do. I would rather see Hays get back here, show he’s healthy and start performing and then move him though.  Santander has some leadership stuff you like.
    • His statcast numbers are trending well. Only thing that’s surprising so far is that he’s not walking a lot.
    • That new routine includes getting himself warmed up differently and more quickly than as as a starter. These nuances are why no one can assume a starter can just become a great reliever and automatically get a bump in velocity.  We also don't know how quickly he can rebound to be able to pitch again. Now, he hadn't pitched in a week yesterday so he should been fresh, so perhaps the new warmup routine did not see him fully warmed up. Or maybe a lack of adrenaline pitching late in a 6-0 game was why we saw about a MPH difference in his velocities? Suarez didn't miss many bats and actually missed none with his fastball. His fastball has typically gotten a lot of whiff.  The good news is he didn't allow any hits or walks, and needed only 24 pitches to get through 2.1 innings.
