If you go to Gamefeed -> Player Breakdowns on Statcast for yesterday, it said he threw 12/20 pitches as cutters, between 88.3-93.8 MPH. They got 4 whiffs on 8 swings. 6 fastballs 95.8-96.9 mph, got another two whiffs, and then two breaking balls (1 whiff 1 swing). I think Statcast has trouble identifying whatever he’s throwing between cutter/slider/sweeper/curve. I’m guessing it’s more a hard cutter around 93 and slower slider around 89. But whatever he’s throwing, he’s getting really good spin on it at the velos he’s throwing them at, and the results are great. The four seamer has great velo too obviously, but not the same degree of impressive spin so it seems he has more natural feel for supinating spin, like Burnes and Bradish, and should continue leaning on that. -

I like Mateo to CF to replace Mullins in 2025. Keep Holliday at 2B. -
Well, I think some things have changed since spring training, mostly for the good. Westburg looks like an infield fixture. Mateo has been surprisingly solid. On the other hand, Mullins, Hays and Santander are all scuffling a bit. So maybe there’s more opportunity in the outfield than it appeared over the winter, and less opportunity in the infield. When Holiday returns he’ll be a priority play, but if you can play him in multiple spots, so much the better. -

And he gets out of the second a lot quicker if Mountcastle makes that play. -
I don’t think they’ve prejudged that Bradfield is Mullins’ heir. He’s a candidate. There’s several other possibilities. If they want to add HollidAy to the list of possibilities, fine with me. Here’s how I see the list (in order of seniority in the system); 1. Cowser 2. Fabian 3. Beavers 4. Bradfield

Less than 2 of 3 would be disappointing. Gray-Kremer is a tough matchup though. Will be interesting to see how NYY does against SEA after we just took 2/3 from them. -

It’s just panic. If Holliday came out and hit well, to go along with the defense looking good, people would laugh at this idea. But since he struggled, people are finding ways to push him down. I would guess we look back at this idea and kind of laugh at it.
