Sounded like pure speculation, but I do think it's a good idea to kick the tires on if there's interest. I think that, regardless of what position he plays, it's not likely that Reynolds gets himself out of the 0-2 WAR category. That's not necessarily something a team in Baltimore's position should be paying 7.5 MM for. If some team overvalues the pretty things Reynolds does and is willing to give up something of value, I think it's in the Orioles' best interest to deal him.

Reynolds is a terrible, terrible baseball player who is grossly overpaid. Buck doesn't like him. If someone wants him I am sure he is gone. He strikes out way too much, he isn't a clutch hitter, he has low obp. his average is terrible, and he can't field.

Well, Reynolds & Davis are similar players (sort of) and Davis isn't even arb eligible until 2013... so I would imagine of the two, Davis is more likely to stick around.

Plus Davis figures to be a better defender. Your assertion makes sense to me.

I guess it depends on how Reynolds is perceived by others' scouts.

Dead on. Especially beat writers not on Angelos' payroll. Not that I don't think they still do the best job they can, but I'm sure the team limits and controls what info it feeds them intentionally. I'm guessing if Dan is hearing something, it's from a source and he's not "supposed" to hear it.

Oh my god, seriously? You realize he led the Orioles in HR, RBI, and walks, right? "Terrible, terrible baseball player" is a gross, gross overstatement. Not to mention that you have no idea whether or not Buck likes him - that's complete blind speculation.

Compare him to first basemen on winning baseball teams and get back to me.

Compare him to the rest of the Orioles lineup and get back to me. He ain't perfect, but he sure as hell isn't "terrible". No one has hit 37 home runs for the Orioles since Palmeiro. Not saying we shouldn't trade him or look to improve over him, I'm just calling out your extremely off-base hyperbole.

It's a pretty weak point given that Reynolds played the vast majority of his games away from 1B last year, but he was second-to-worst in baseball among those players listed as first basemen by fangraphs. Ultimately, thanks to his outlier-awful defensive year, I don't think his 2011 WAR is representative of his true value. Since 2009 he's been worth almost exactly the same number of wins above replacement as Aramis Ramirez.

      Before I begin, I have to say I have really enjoyed watching Mullins over the past few years. However, his body language when going to the plate now is really poor.  Two thoughts: 1) Is it time for him to at least try switch hitting again. Could it possibly get worse? Just a different look for a bit. 2) I know D is important. But, how many above average, game changing plays does a CF'er (or any fielder) make per game? Yet, for the most part, every starter gets 4 AB's/game where he can make a difference. Is having a good D, no hit player a net gain? Or is a average D, hit player a net gain?

      Thats all there using Mcann for is backup catcher 17 starts all at catcher, Mayo does not play catcher.

      Suarez’ velo makes me think he is an IL candidate when Grayson is activated, if there’s some nagging injury that is contributing to it.  I think it’s very unlikely Akin is optioned and Baumann has pitched better of late, so good chance somebody is going to the IL.

      As to Urias, I think he’s on much thinner ice.  I’d say he has another 30 days to get his bat in gear.  If he doesn’t, I think either Holliday or Mayo will take his spot.

      I don’t see a path for Mayo to get the ABs needed to acclimate & become a force in the lineup this year.  Someone would need to be moved.  I don’t see them bringing him up to get sporadic ABs and if they do bring him up and give him sporadic ABs I don’t see him being a difference maker.  He’s a special talent but every single one of our top tier guys have needed time to adjust.  How does he get that opportunity?

      Offensively, l think McCann is what he is.  If you look at his 2023 game log, you’ll see that he was sub-.600 OPS most of last year, except that he had a 10-game stretch in August where he got very hot and raised his OPS from .564 to .692, and then he had a .525 OPS for the rest of the season once that streak was over.  So, I’m not expecting much more from McCann with the bat than what we’re currently seeing.  Every so often that stiff, grooved swing of his connects with a baseball and he hits the ball hard somewhere.   Most of the time, it doesn’t.   Defensively, there are some indicators that his performance is down, particularly in pitch blocking.  But it’s a small enough sample that I don’t know if it’s really meaningful.   The team is 11-6 when McCann starts and the pitchers have a 3.78 ERA when he’s behind the dish (2.90 when it’s Adley).   I think that’s good enough that the team isn’t going to be in any big hurry to “upgrade” from McCann.   He’s been a good mentor for Adley and seems well liked and respected in the clubhouse.   So long as they’re winning when he catches, they’re going to stick with him IMO.
