Not sure it would cost even that, just the league minimum for a veteran and prorated for the last two months.

If someone traded for Mark they would have had to pay his salary. The fact that they released him early tells me no one was even inquiring about him.

There is a lot of disinformation in this post. If someone traded for Mark, they could have got Cleveland to eat the rest of his salary or a significant portion of it. If someone claimed him, then they assume all of his remaining salary. They released him early because it was clear no one was going to give up value in a trade or claim him, so what sense is there to drag it out. The sooner he signs somewhere else, the less they pay. But that doesn't mean no one inquired.

If someone traded for him and were only willing to pay half his salary that still would work out better for the Indians than just releasing him.

They also didnt try waiting out the whole 10 days, they went ahead and released him, so they are paying him for the rest of this year, for not playing. Which tells me, they think he has no productive value left in him.
