Trading all of those solid cost controlled guys for 1 year of a 3 WAR player is ridiculous.

No it's not they didn't get much back. At best 2 of them become Avg ball players.

And lets say that you're right, and only 2 of them become average ball players. Thats 24 WAR over 6 years. For 3 war in 1 year.

And how do you know Upton will only be in S.D 1 year? The guy lives on the west coast. Even if he leaves next year the comp pick might be better then all the players traded.

But then you're paying the market rate for it. Why should that be factored into whether the deal was a "win" for SD?

O no a team paying market value for a position of need that's just crazy talk. S.D has cheap pitching for the next 5 to 6 years.

Even if he does stay, they will then be handicapped with a huge deal which'll set them back in the later years of it. A player like Upton will get way more than hes worth being teams overvalue offense on the market.

S.D COULDN'T SCORE LAST YEAR. SO THEY WENT OUT AND FIXED THAT. Why is this so hard for people to understand?

That's fine. But how does any of that make this "trade" a win? In this trade, they are getting Upton for 1 year, and a QO pick. That's all they are getting. If you want to say SD might sign him to a market deal, okay. But that should be viewed as separate to the trade.

And SD has cost controlled pitching. Which remains my point in these discussions with you. When you development a pitching staff like SD, or positional players like the Cubs, this allows you to then lock up players to big contracts, because you are getting so much more production out of the rest of your team, and paying peanuts for it. Developing A, allows you to do B. The Orioles have not developed A yet, in any area, so it's crazy to advocate for the trading from A, thereby hurting any chance of developing it, so you can do B.

S.D is also getting a Minor league player too. This is a win for S.D.
