There are times when Manny shows discipline and there are times when he decides he is going to swing before it leaves the pitcher's hand.

And there are times when he takes the first two pitches, the ump makes a bad call on the 1-0 pitch, he patiently runs the count full, and nobody has any memory of how the at-bat actually went down.

I think we should start being a little more aggressive sending players from third. Holding em at third has felt really chancy over the last couple years.

The reason is that the ump called the previous outside pitch a strike.

So what? It's a ball. Hope the ump actually calls it a ball this time. That third pitch was further off the plate than the second one called a strike. Machado does not need to be protecting the plate with a 1-1 count. Do that with 2 strikes.

Buchholz did exactly what you are supposed to when you get a call off the plate, try to throw one in the same spot or further out and hope you get the call or the hitter (understandably) expands the zone.
