So I have expressed my opinion on the wisdom of sending him back to AAA. I still believe he has nothing to learn there. That leaves us with 3 possible reasons why he's headed for Norfolk to start the season:
1. Service time manipulation. Lots has been said on this topic. I don't need to add to it.
2. The leadership is sending him a message. "Stop reading your press clippings." Elias's quote in the tweet that @Sports Guy posted above is rather telling. "We were hoping he would show up as a better version of himself."
3. They saw a fundamental flaw in his mechanics that they couldn't fix in ST. Maybe he's tipping his off speed stuff. Maybe he's got release point problems. They saw something that would cause him to struggle mightily at the MLB level that will take several weeks to fix.
I personally think it might be #2. That quote from Elias has multiple layers. It's going to be very interesting to see how Grayson responds.
Why do you care what a non reporter reports ? Connolly broke the Coloumbe story and the Banner the Grayson to the minor leagues The Politi story was first reported by a guy from the Boston Globe.
