He may not hit much for average and he strikes out a ton, but he is everything Davis was NOT this year. I dont know where we'd be if not for him.

.822 vs .855 OPS. It's not like Davis is a complete slouch in comparison. Trumbo can wind up with 50 homers, Davis can wind up with 40. Having two top 5 guys is pretty awesome.

19 teams in ML History (excluding the teams that have 3 players hitting 40HR) have had 2 players on the same team hit the 40HR mark in the same season. We'd be the 20th (Edit: We'd actually be the 23rd counting the 3 3 player 40 HR teams) and 1st Oriole team to do so... pretty cool!

Btw, there's only been 3 teams in major league history with more than 2 players hitting the 40HR mark in the same season:

1973 Atlanta Braves

Hank Aaron 40

Darrell Evans 41

Davey Johnson 43

1996 Colorado Rockies

Ellis Burks 40

Vinny Castilla 40

Andres Galarraga 47

1997 Colorado Rockies

Vinny Castilla 40

Andres Galarraga 41

Larry Walker 49

Orioles could have three 40+ HR hitters, Trumbo, Davis and Machado. Rockies on the list makes sense given the ballpark. Wondering what was in the water the year the Braves had three hitters hit 40+. Aaron did it in only 120 games and Davey Johnson was never a power hitter.

If Davis and Machado end up with 40 there's a good chance we'll finish the season strong.

It's quite possible.

Machado is on pace for 39 HR.

Davis is on pace for 40 HR.

And Trumbo of course already has 40 and is on pace for 50HR.

Davis is the more valuable player because he draws far more walks and plays much better defense.

The launching pad in Atlanta was a very good hitters' park, at least in part because it sits at about 1000 ft. in altitude. That's one reason Hank Aaron looks like he didn't really decline. He moved from a rather poor hitters' park in Milwaukee. In '73 he hit 24 homers in 63 home games.

Yeah that was strange, since the reason we traded him was to get a power hitter, the catcher Earl Williams, who never matched Davey's season with Atlanta. Another curious turn is that Johnson then went to Japan and could barely get over the Mendoza line.
