Vegas projection: 78.5 wins

My projection: 74 wins

Current record/pace: 51-36 (95-win pace)

The Orioles are on pace to finish with 95 wins, but Peta projects 74.

The Orioles are 51-36 at the moment with 75 games remaining. To finish with only 74 wins, they'd have to go 23-52 the rest of the way. That's a .307 winning percentage, worse than any team in baseball. The Vegas projection isn't really that much better.

The remaining schedule for the Orioles is very difficult. 9 games against Boston, 9 against Toronto, 4 against the Nats, series versus Texas and Houston, and a west coast trip are all ahead of us. Still, though, I'd bet on the Orioles to beat that line.

I don't have ESPN Insider, but people are skeptical about the Orioles, to say the least.

Just to clarify-- the 74-win projection is what that writer projected at the beginning of the season. It's not what he's projecting now.

Hah, well that adds some meaningful context. I thought that number was pretty absurd.

LOL if you don't think he's screwing us

Hope you had fun at the all star game...oh wait, he took that away from us in another act of pettiness.

There is only so much that can be done with the schedule.

Take the All-Star game away? Sure.

Mess with the schedule? Not enough gain to be worth the effort.

Particularly since every AL East team plays every other team 19 times...number of interleague opponents are fixed and the same for each team, etc. Our schedule is no more difficult than any other team. The All Star game decisions? Didn't Selig make those? (at least for last year and the next three years locations).

Yep, although I did note back in April that we play more games where we have a night game, then travel at least one time zone, without a day off, than any of the other teams in our division.

Get used to difficult schedules as long as the lawsuit is ongoing. Manfred is a petty, sad excuse of a man.

Only obnoxious fans complain about things like schedule. Red Sox fans, Alabama fans etc. we all play the same teams. If you make excuses about stuff like that, you probably don't have the resolve to win the East.

AL East is a tough division. Very tough.

Being in the AL East automatically makes our schedule harder than 25 other teams'. Throw in the fact that our interleague rival is the Nats and I'd say we have it tougher than the other AL East teams. Though of course, they have to play us 19 times, and we only have to play them. ;)

AL East +17

AL Central -1

AL West -2

NL East -3

NL Central -11

NL West 0

    • JD Martinez would be a more of the same kind of acquisition. He is not an impact bat and he is a periphery (around the margins) piece at this point. Why not set the bar higher and sign Alonso? Acquiring Pete Alonso allows you to move on from Mountcastle and put Mayo (where he belongs right now) DH. It also allows you to move on from O'Hearn.  Alonso gets everyday ABs and Mayo does. Those two things to a large degree help solve the lineup imbalance against LHP. I know Alonso will cost real money. But again who are we paying? The money is there. It's time to start using it (if we want to win in October).
    • Your full quote said to use him as a DH for 100+ games. If you are worried about him being covered through his injuries - how can you assume he wouldn't be injured at the end of the season, going into the playoffs?
    • Here’s an exercise… it’s the postseason and the bases are loaded. The Santa scenario. Who on our current roster would you rather have up over JD Martinez?  Same fact pattern as Santander’s AB.
    • I think the title of this thread told you his status
    • Why did you pare down my quote about it being for the post season and not just 162?  People, always so quick to clown someone. Lmao. Damn. At least use my whole quote bro.  If you think that we don’t need at least one proven playoff bat then that’s ok. My point is, that we have enough 1B/DH options to carry JD through his ups/downs/injuries over 162 for his experience, leadership, and playoff experience.  You can disagree, but quote me right.
    • It's kind of amazing to me how no one knows Suarez's free agent status. I've heard it both ways. He's Schrodinger's baseball player.
    • Since JD Martinez has a career OPS of .950 in the postseason across 12 series and 151 plate appearances, I am sure our FO will have no use for him.  A veteran player who has experienced a lot of postseason success rarely helps young teams get to that next level.
