Not a matter of speed. The Phillies outbid us. DD obviously did not like the health risk even at $9M. If DD was interested he would have bid higher.

And since then, he's posted an OPS of .974 and .780 the last two seasons.  So apparently he's recovered to the point where these conditions don't impact his hitting.   His defense was solid in 2015, very poor in 2016, so it's hard to say if medical issues had a role in that or not.

Also, Saunders had a pick attached to him that affects the team's differently. If I'm not mistaken the players with a pick attached is down to Trumbo...

Saunders did not receive a QO. He had no pick attached.

I would have liked Saunders, but we have Smith (for better or for worse) who would make signing Saunders redundant.
