The Orioles still have $35m to possibly work with. What if they signed  Lynn and Cobb? Be a shocker, but it hasn't been a typical off-season. 

I'd still rather trade a Brach or Givens for McHugh.  Maybe sign one of Cobb/Lynn and trade for Corbin?

Again, this is a totally ridiculous WAR exercise. But, even without another signing, it is NOT crazy the O's can compete for the Wild Card in 2018.

If you believe that 4.6 WAR is real and repeatable. Eye test disagrees but maybe Cashner has some kind of magic on balls in play.

I don't think he repeats that. But, I think he'll look like an ace compared to Tillman and Ubaldo last year. Lot of addition by subtraction for the O's in 2018.

Exactly.

Look, we should be thrilled with a 4.50 out of Cashner pitching in Camden Yards. But understand you're getting a guy who won't be agonizing to watch pitch, and you're getting a guy who throws an anchor into the rotation. Now you have two young guys with upside, a veteran with ML capability, and 2 rotation holes is infinitely easier to deal with than 3.
