I'm really getting to like this guy. Dirty uniform , especially in the front, saw him run out a grounder that turned a typically Orioles out into a hit, stole 2nd base, eventually scored. I've been hungry for a long time for baseball like this.

We had three speedsters (The Villain, The Gentry, and Speedracer Andretti) in the lineup at the same time, and none of them were just pinchrunners. Aside from the homers, the O's scoring was reminiscent of the havoc the Royals wreaked upon the A's in their famous come-from-behind play-in victory in 2014. Add Mullins in somehow and John GIbbons's head would have been spinning.

The Orioles will have three guys with 10 stolen bases this year!

Ooh, I like "The Villain". Hope that one sticks.

By the way, I still think Beckham could be a decent LF. Just need to get rid of Trumbo or Davis. Beckham-Mullins-Hays could be decent.

He doesn't hit well enough to justify playing him anywhere but 2b or SS. And he can't play either position. The team needs to stop trying to squeeze round pegs into square holes and cut ties with players like Beckham.

I really like Villar as a stopgap at 2B. Solid 2B, has plenty of speed and reasonably priced. Seems to be a good personality, too. Good pickup to get in return for Schoop, TBH. Even if the rest of the deal was lackluster.

They're playing for the future so if the rest of the deal turns out to be lackluster then it wasn't a good move for us.

The O's might end up getting more for him than they got for Schoop.  That alone would make it a good move for the O's.

You can't evaluate/judge something that hasn't happened. The point I was making is that the prospects that we got in return for Schoop will determine how the trade worked out, not Villar. If they're able to flip him that's fine, but I'm not as optimistic as you are because I know the Brewers have been trying to trade him (unsuccessfully) for years.

I actually can do that - if it's reasonable, and it is reasonable.  That's part of the reason we're here - at The Orioles Hangout.

I'm not sure Villar is the answer at SS, I'd prefer to keep him at 2B next year.  That said, I haven't seen enough from Beckham at this point to make me think he's worth tendering.  Not sure what the other options are - we don't seem to have anyone in the minors ready to man SS, so that leaves FA.  Obviously they need a cheap option.  I'd prefer an all glove-no bat type given the need to go cheap and the fact that they'll pretty much be a placeholder on a rebuilding team for a year or two.  Not sure what possible guys will be available that can fill that role.

And what if Schoop continues to play poorly for the rest of his contract? In your evaluation model, it's only fair to consider that as well.

And ftr, the O's got Carmona and Ortiz in the Schoop trade - 2 prospects with high ceilings - exactly the kind of prospects the O's should have been going for.  Without using any crystal ball, that was a very smart trade for the O's.
