Hey, it's the one benefit of living in this area. Gotta take advantage of it

The most underrated trend of every season!

Lol. Let me know when you come down for a game. Depending on the day, I'll see if I can get off work and go.

  • 3 weeks later...

The Tides currently sit at 7-10.   This is a considerably younger team than last year, averaging 25.8 among the hitters (4th youngest in the league), and 25.7 for the pitchers (also 4th).   This compares to 26.5 and 26.2 last year.

Keeping in mind the extremely pitcher-friendly stadium in which the Tides play their home games, 4.53 runs/game is respectable even though half a run lower than league average, while their 4.54 ERA is rather mediocre even though 0.21 lower than league average.

The youngest hitter on the team is 22-year old Ryan Mountcastle, who is red hot and has posted a .919 OPS so far.   25-year old DJ Stewart has a solid .820 OPS.   Chance Sisco (.457) and Anthony Santander (.588) are off to slow starts.    Austin Wynns (28) was just activated.

The top starter so far has been 25-year old Yefry Ramirez, three scoreless outings and 9.6 K/9.   24-year old Keegan Akin has been pretty good, 3.95 ERA and 11.9 K/9.  23-year old Luis Ortiz has been disappointing, posting a 4.76 ERA and racking up high pitch counts that have limited him to 11.1 IP in 3 starts.

Overall, it’s been kind of a meh start for the Tides.   Things will get more interesting when Austin Hays arrives in a couple of weeks.

Are you certain he will not be sent to Bowie?  Norfolk makes sense if they want him to get as many starts in CF as possible. But considering how he hit in Bowie last year and how conservative the FO has been with placements, I can see him repeating.

Agreed. I could see this happening as well. Although out of Hays, Santander...Austin deserves to be in Norfolk more than Santander.

I saw the Tides play in Columbus last night. Awful game. Luis Ortiz was dreadful, giving up 5 runs in four innings, striking out 1 and walking 4. Chance Sisco played one of the worst defensive games I've ever seen from a catcher. He gave up three "wild pitches" that an average MLB backstop would have blocked, he threw a ball into center field trying to catch a runner, and he dropped a relay throw that would have easily tagged out a runner trying to score. Tides lost 11-7. I hope that's just a small sample size and not a reflection of his abilities as a catcher. If it is, he should be moved away from the position immediately and turned into a DH.

So you are saying Sisco has the arm strength to get a ball into center field?

Sweet!
