I suspect that the point at which a major league ballplayer complains of a little soreness is the point when most of us would be in the ER for unbearable pain.

I'm going to say it varies from person to person.

For instance I don't think Fred Lynn had an abnormally high pain tolerance.

He's never been off the 60 day IL.

He was on a minor league rehab assignment but still on the IL.

Obviously that ends now.   So if he gets healthy enough to try to play again, he could start a new minor league rehab assignment that would last up to 20 days.

I'm sure they need a doctor's approval for this so they can't play games.

Mark Trumbo....13.5 million this year  with the absolute best free medical and surgical and rehab care provided in the world....1.5 million guaranteed each of next three years...65.1 million total ...Mark will be just fine.

If one of us on this board (or the vast majority of Americans) gets sick and can't work....hmmm...good luck.  Maybe we can go on FMLA, no short or long term disability, health insurance doesn't cover the costs, bankruptcy, loss of job without a pension, etc.

some message in there someplace about our collective values.

Not only do we get to pay for Trumbo, we also get to pay for his PRP injections, which have a sketchy record of actually working. I am not exactly sure what Trumbo's injury is, but based on (my admittedly amateur) internet search it seems that at best there is some evidence that PRP injections may provide short term relief of knee osteoarthritis, but not any long-term help. The overall picture  is of lots of demand for, use of, and money being made from PRP based on very little evidence it is actually effective.

Bet Trumbo gets a knee replacement by the time he is 40 years old.

Trumbo in the interview I just read seems very unsure if he will make it back to play.It is a little sad.

Yeah, it's in Roch's latest blog as well. He even said he might soon have to discuss what's best with his family. Sounds like he's just going through the process until there's no process left. Mentioned that the arthritis might be a bigger issue than the surgery.
