I like feel good stories, and my original post was Stimulated by my enthusiasm for Means. Nate Mclouth Was an all star once, and Brad Brach, and an article about the guys who were one time all stars would probably be an interesting article and cover a whole lot of guys nobody’s ever heard of. So I liked the idea of Means getting a spot.

Since then the sad grind Of this awful team has reminded me of nothing so much as the Israelites’ 40-year slog through the desert. So I kinda lost interest in the AS game. It has been slowly deteriorating in quality for years, and There’s not really much reason to follow it: even the starters usually only get one at bat, Mike Trout is anointed MVP beforehand, And you need an enigma machine to decipher the box score when all is said and done. Its not ironic at all to lose interest in what is really just a Dog & Pony show.

You started a thread about the Orioles' All-Star rep less than 2 months ago, not several years ago.

Now, in another thread on the same subject, you said that don't care. That's ironic, plain and simple.

There's no need to continue this conversation.

“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.“

And I explained myself very well, if You consider it to be inadequate, then yes there’s no need to continue to sling syllables back-and-forth. See you tomorrow.

I don’t understand the posters who believe Mancini is more deserving than Means. Mancini is 11th in the AL in fWAR among AL outfielders. Plus there is a league wide perception that power numbers for Orioles players are inflated due to Camden Yards. After all, three different Orioles led the AL in HRs four consecutive years earlier this decade. A starting pitcher putting up a 2.50 ERA in this ballpark is much more impressive.

One can think that Means is a great selection and entirely deserving while also thinking Mancini could have/should have made it as well. It’s not as though there’s a one player max rule.

Pretty much is when you are playing .289 ball.

Meh, who cares.

Cash or Means would be a better choice anyway. They get into the game, throw ten pitches, and we not have to worry about Mancini getting injured.

That's an odd sentiment, considering that you started the original thread for the Orioles' 2019 All-Star game representative.

It’s really not that deep man. It was a funny hand wave of the subject to come from someone who had started a thread on the topic just a month or two ago.

In the grand scheme of things it’s not super important (is any of this?).

22 guys, Means, and Mancini would make 24. Which of our guys is the sneaky 25th unaccounted for?

I don't think that Andrew Cashner deserves to be an All-Star, but the fact that he has pitched as well as he has on this awful team might tend to separate him from the other non-All-Star Orioles ........ so perhaps Mancini and Means would be bowed to by 22 players, while Cashner would be an observer (neither a bower nor a bowee.)

Looks to me that he was squeezed by Vogelbach (Mariners needed a rep, .900 OPS) and Pence (has had a great year for TEX). If you want to make it as a 1B/DH you really need to put up some numbers. Luke Voit has a stronger case than Mancini IMO.

Except Abreu made it with an .800. And he’s the third white sock.
