I'm pretty sure that there DOES NOT necessarily have to be contact in order for there to be an interference call. If a player stands right in front of the catcher preventing him from throwing the ball, then it's interference, even if he doesn't touch the catcher.

 

But that was not the case right there ........ Mancini immediately jumped out of the way to avoid screening the catcher's vision, and the position of his body subsequently had nothing to do with the bad throw by the catcher.
