O’s were terrible on replay challenges in 2019

I just stumbled on the fact that the O’s succeeded on only 11 of 30 replay challenges in 2019.     Their 36% success rate was 28th among the 30 teams and their 11 successful challenges were the fewest in MLB.

A few other tidbits:

- The Royals had the highest success rate, at 82% (23 of 28).

- Texas had the most successful challenges, at 29 (of 46).

- The Twins had the worst success rate, at 30% (12 for 39).

- The Padres made the most challenges, with 54 (46% successful).

- The Yankees made the fewest challenges, at 22 (68% successful).

How many did the Blue Jays do?  Has to be 100+.

Is there multi-year data, and if so what is the year-to-year correlation between managers/teams?  Is it possible that random chance is most of the variation here?

Oh, I think certain teams definitely have differing philosophies.   While I haven’t systematically looked at every team, in the six years since replay challenges were instituted, the Rays are near the top for most challenges every season, challenging 313 calls in six seasons.   Second most appears to be Texas at 294.    The team making the fewest challenges is (drum roll please) your Baltimore Orioles, with only 180 in six years, followed closely by the Yankees at 185.

And for you conspiracy theorists out there, the Yankees are incredibly successful on their challenges, at 73% over 6 years.   In fact, they’ve had only 9 fewer successful challenges than the Rays, despite challenging 128 fewer calls.   The Rays are at 46%, the Rangers 48%, the O’s 52%.    Either the Yankees are incredibly good at knowing when to challenge, or.....well, you know.

No, it's absolutely clear from this data that the league hates us!!!
