Yes he was. A 28 year old anyone could have signed.

Maybe I’m guilty of reading into it too much but seems like some writers point out some things but not others.

Was it not part of Yaz's story in 2019?  I'm trying to figure out why you're so defensive about someone mentioning an Orioles screw-up.

You don’t notice a trend of certain writers? The whole Heyman going after the Orioles for tanking?

Trading Tatis for Shields is a screwup. This is some feel good story of a player who was a non prospect.

Actually, this is not correct.   Yaz was not released, he was traded for Tyler Herb.   You can still look at that as being “dumped,” but it’s not true that anyone could have signed him.

On a related note, it’s interesting that Yaz didn’t get even a single third place vote for NL ROY.   But, the NL rookie class was far stronger than the AL’s.

I had honestly forget we dealt him.

I was thinking back to the multiple times anyone could have claimed him during the Rule 5 draft.

And I would also add... if they had 5 votes instead of 3 maybe he gets noticed.

I don't notice, no.  And I wouldn't really care if I had noticed.  I don't believe certain writers are biased against the Orioles, people here just happen to gripe when they see something written unfavorably about the franchise and think it's only the Orioles that are getting picked on.  They don't care to take notice if anything unflattering is written/said about other franchises because they're not on the lookout for slights on franchises like the Angels.

We spend a good chunk of our days on here analyzing things to death...and over the past few years, we've all done our steady share of bashing this franchise in one way or another.  So why would anyone care if someone outside of the family takes a shot?  It's not like it hasn't been unwarranted.

I care if it is for something silly. Yaz was available mutiple years in the Rule 5 draft and nobody in a risk free environment claimed him. Now all the sudden we “dumped” him. When Rosenthal wrote about the disconnect between Dan and Buck and other dysfunction he was dead on. I didn’t care for the fact that he criticized Peter for not letting Dan go to Toronto while ignoring the White Sox making Kenny Williams stay. Be consistent. Last summer Heyman going after the Orioles tanking was pathetic. They had just spent a ton of money and pushed themselves too far tying to contend. Wasn’t like Cleveland this year while they had a good team they did nothing during the winter. What’s worse?, being honest with yourself and rebuilding or not spending during a contending phase?

I just thought it was odd last night on the day the voting came out to bring this up, that’s all.

Obviously this is an Orioles board and we focus on all the minutiae around them. Which you enjoy so much. When you have an owner like Peter Angelos you are going to be criticized and justifiably so. I just think at times it gets to be a joke on stuff like this. For some reason it ticked me off a little.

I think you make a valid point. But it is part of human nature to have bias against things or people. Whether it’s justified or not is irrelevant.
